for the boat , insurance and the spanish translation, ssr registration, good to take proof of purchase etc,for you helmsmans cert of competence or whatever it is called now if changed ask rya,for the car 2 red triangles and for you a flourescent jacket. for the car insurance documents and a green card from ins co,mot and v5. thats about it as for towing a p21 a good 4x4 , lock everything when at garages espec boat with clamps etc take of the prop etc dont know the route you are taking , bit lonely on the santander to barcelona route , and dont stop for anything even when flagged down as its well known trick there to mug uk tourists. its a good trip done it many times

Insurance for boat and car, green card,s.s.r certificate(small ships register) I.C.C. license from R.Y.A.Proof of purchase invoice showing V.A.T. paid and weight plate on trailer in an easily seen place, warning triangle and couple of bollards, headlight kit for main beam alteration other people on here might have other bits to add no doubt.Ferry to Santander is your best bet, hell of a drag from calais and only one lot of officials to go thro.

tell me your route and send or post a pic of the trailer, take the photo from the back in order to see the lights.I can help you.

For a P21 you dont need much things.

New regulations posted recently on the Caravan Club website about car/trailer combinations longer than 12m overall length.

Don't admit to having flares on board as they will take them off you on the ferry or they did to me when going to France

There's already a lot of good information posted but you should remember that the speed limit for towing is 50 mph 80 kph, i got caught at 116kph a couple of years ago and it cost me £60 cash but would have been £100 if not paid on the spot, Fortunatly then there were points to your license.

Check out the new French regulations about displaying 80/90 kph speed signs on the trailer board. They were introduced last March and up til now the French police have turned a blind eye to those without them but that is likely to change soon.

When I looked into towing down that way, I was told to beware of hijackers stealing your boat (honestly). Not sure how true this is, though.
