I dont doubt that Taz knows what he is doing, triples on a cat are a handfull, that centre motor gets a hiding, sometimes having it fixed and not steering is a help

cat/mono

I,ve put 4 mercury EFI,s on a cat ,and it was very fast ,we turned 15x34 labs ,with 1,87:1 and run out of props.
but they were all steering.
Kiwiracer ,why do you want to lock the center engine ?
If you have a decent deflector in the centre of the tunnel, you will have no problems at all.
I argree,if not having a deflector ,you playing with the center engine in the rough.

Back in the 90's, when Burnett & Pascoe were trying for the class II WR on Windermere, they were running triples (Smilin Jacks) on a Skater 28, they were rumoured to be circa 350hp each.
They ran with the centre motor locked, and skegless. their best average 137 point summat mph. Not sure of the fastest one-way pass.

28 skater

I know ,cause i was at vulture venture then, and looked closely at that rig.
It was set up for all out top speed only.
true about the skeg ,steering I can,t remember ,I do know that I never saw engine,s (lowers) mounted so high.
As for powerheads ,they destroyed numerous ones ,they were all over the place.
Actually it ran over 140 mph several passes, unbelievable huh ?

I am sure you have all seen it but Berinco made a nice looking Trip Rig, but from a different angle, it was making snowball sized water .. not like it would matter to most of you, but just a ski-racing view! The handling wasnt as good as a twin so I have heard.

Nice boat though, now a twin for the above reason.

triples

Its true what they have saying,it looks awsome, but it was a pain to steer it and it did not run faster than twins cause it was so hard to drive.
Still I think triples on a 23 mono is to much, the lowers are so far off center mounted ,and she is very stern heavy for such a short boat.
Being built for ski race ,the idea was to flatten water with this machine,so the skieer is having a better ride.

But is was a killer look.

The funniest thing with them, was when in desparation to break the 100mph barrier with that boat, running on LPG, they'd blown all their motors throughout the week (Windermere) and Charlie decided to have a crate of engines flown over from smilin jacks, overnight to heathrow, and his helli pilot flew down to heathrow from the Lowood hotel early on friday morning, collected the crate, and flew back up.

I was stood there with TD when Mark prized the crate open with the crow bar, rushing to get the powerheads on the boat, and down the lake.
Trouble was, Smilin Jack, had overnighted a crate that Pascoe had sent out to them the week before, containing three, totaly destroyed 2.5's Marks face was a picture!

Reckon someone got a right bollocking over that!

What a feckin great waste of money! (imagine the cost & aggro involved in such a last minute overnight freight job!)
