Never won anything but was always running, so much so in fact that coming back in from one race they couldn't switch off the engines and mounted the pontoon dock which then emi sank and stranded the boat like a beached whale on top ! It had to then be craned off. In fairness the Issottas always had that problem the engine stop solenoid was mounted in the middle of the V to activate the diesel rack and often failed as it got wet/ connections vibrated off; we had a manual morse cable as a backup as we had been caught by it ...
If you have any more info regarding the Isotta,s V6 diesels ,that would be great as I have such an engine that i,m going to use next year ,I am intrested in what speeds they were running ,and what ratio and pitch etc etc

thanks A.J

Me too! The Seateks are a big motor, and I think the Isottas or Yanmar 440's may be more readily available and a bit more sensible, at least as far as fitting them into a hull!

Sterling, do you have some engines already - second hand or new? If so how much if you don't mind me asking - PM or email me if you prefer - cookee@bananasharkracing.com

Thanks,

I,ve got a set Yanmar 440 ,s with 2 speed transmissions and Arneson ASD8,s ...But I have them for my boat (baja 40 outlaw) However I do want to sell the engines ,if the engines I,m after (cummins 480,s ) are resonable prices,(I,m waiting for a price quote )
The Isotta,s V6 engines are very old ,the one I have is from 1986 ,and produce 450 HP @ 3100 rpm.
In some Italian websitesyou can find them often for sale .

The Yanmar 6BY (3.0-260) is most likely available as a I-B motor (shaft drive) complete with marine transmission.

The ASD6's will work with the Yanmar 260's and you can go with either a ZF or Twin Disc gear box. Anything with a 1.75:1 or smaller in reduction will work (warrantied rating that is)

Done some more research and Jon is correct that the Yanmars come with boxes!

I have no idea about what sort speed you are looking for ,and for speeds not higher than 45 mph its probably not that important but ,be carefull with choosing the right ratio if you want to go with a surfacedrive, and diesel power, the diesel engine will not rev high, and if the ratio is deviding the crankshaft speed even more ,the propellor speed is too slow to reach the potential speed.
The bigger diameter propellor that can be choosen with a surfacedrive will not take care of the slow turning problem, the efficiency is propellor speed with surfacedrives, you need to let the drives /propellor /boat think the engine is a gasoline type high revving engine .

To achieve 72mph, my Bravo1 30's are turning at just shy of 2900rpm

In the old Debenhams boat, the Sabre Marathon's turned @ 2450rpm, through a 1.5:1 step-up gearbox (3675rpm) propelled it to just over 90mph (on ASD8's) can't remember the pitch, but they were ferkin big Rolla's.

Could you give some more specs from that boat ?
such as length, wide ,weight etc what HP engines ,sort engines .

I have a set ASD8,s too , and use the 2 speed ZF,s with 1,30 in 1 th gear and 1:1 in second ,the 440 yanmars are turning 3400 max ,I,m going to turn up the fuel on the yanmars to +- 500 HP each ,and hope to see 80 mph with the 40 outlaw (poker run race layup ) I too have some real nasty Rolla,s 28 pitch 6 blades ,and a set Helices Radice 4 blade 26 ,s
Wish I could be turning those to 3400 rpm
