She was powered by four BPM Super Volcano's and had a top speed of just over 60 knots.

All from the excellent book 'Milestones in my designs' by Sonny Levi - that I was very lucky to be given for my last birthday!

I'm not sure how well that would go down with the Boatmad Intellectual Property Police.

Surely it's not OK to splash it just because it's not made any more?

There was something almost like it produced in the UK,
both built by Souter in the IOW, Don Shead design.
both inboard one was I think "Baby Bovril" the other was "Shady Lady" ended up with Nobby Nevins, used to keep it outside his car place along the goldhawk road. 19' & 21' (nobbys being the 19', came around the same time as the Avenger but SWP - penpromo would know more. Didn't quite have the rakish front of the Levi though

The boat you actualy have here in the photgraphs is "Barbarina" designed by Sonny Levi and bulit I think in 1968 for Count Mario Augusta ( owner of MV Augusta motorcyles) She was built in Anzio and powered by 4 massive BPM Super Volcanoes. I have no idea what happened to her.

Yep, definately Barbarina as confirmed by Adam. Fortunate to have both of Sonny Levi's books; Dhows to Deltas and Milestones in My Designs, both rare books now, last week there was a Dhows to Deltas on Ebay, reached £67.00 plus delivery so far off $800 !

Wasn´t there another Levi beauty which had the misfortune of catching fire many moons ago (about 1969?!). Thunderfish or something like that??

I was mad keen on race boats anyway - but that really sealed it!

Seem to think he had a two boat team with him, Black Tornado and a newer Cigarette hull (yelloy) that is not shown on the website. Will have to look at my mother's photo albums when I next visit!

The other Cigarette of Balestrieri team (yelloy) was this ?

Sorry for the off-thread.

It.s a Levi's Delta36',like that above I think. They are cruising offshore with the same hull and lenght of some Delta for competitions in the '60s.

Interesting quote....

Quote:
Charles Gardner worked closely with Sonny Levi on the design suggesting significant changes by removing the deck over the fuel tanks that reduced the weight significantly. He also interpreted & bent the rules wherever possible including a suggestion that the cabin door could be combined with the use of the mandatory cabin table as well as a dolls plastic cutlery set for the galley!
Not the V24 Charles Gardner?

Levi Specials

Danny
there were I think 3 or 4 of this style of boat built for the Med "In crowd" called commuters they could make the trip from St Tropez to the Cap d'Antibes for lunch then back to wherever.Levi designed one then was asked for more I think the first was for Gianni Agnelli and was called C G CINQUETA or something similar next up was the boat for Count Augusta Babarina and then Hildago all along the same lines all based on the Delta shape with which SONNY made his name ,All these commuters were 50 knots plus..some had overnight accomodation in very small cabins as they were mostly seating /engines and big tanks!
Levi has been my hero since A'speranziella won the Cowes Torquay in 1963.
