I would try a large pitch 4 blade prop, does your gearbox have a standard or a fatshaft fitted.

[Ross/Puppies Balls writing]
We run a blueprinted 26" yam drag prop on our p20 with tuned 300 promax and holeshot is awesome, no problems when pulling skier out great handling and seriously quick!
if you can find one defiantly recommend a the yam drag! otherwise go for a laser, possibly a chopper if your looking for top end but they are abit flighty,
The lightning Et is similar prop to the yam and run well on the phantoms but like the yams , there usually expensive and hard to find,
is your gearbox the pointy type or does it have the water pickup on the sides of it (aswell as on the bullet)
what do you want out of it?
if you decide what u want top end then we can help you to prop it so it will reach that when you run out of revs, that way you will be using the whole rev range rather then the engine running out of power, so your acceleration wont be as good either.

Sorry havent got back sooner, the gearbox does have water pickups on the sides as well as on the cone.I am not too fussed about out and out top end as its only a pleasure boat with kids and missus in it. I would like to get something that runs ok and comfortable from 0 to 65mph with decent acceleration as dont often go quicker than that ,i think its got 4 blade viper on at the moment, not 100% as iam in london and the boat is in cowes.Do you think its worth having a couple of different props .Cheers nick

re which prop
I was out in flat water last weekend 3 adults 1 kid in the boat approx 110 ltres of fuel in the tank ,foot flat to the floor running at 65mph on gps could only get to about 5500rpm any ideas? I was thinking should be getting 80+ mph with over 300+ hp ,also would a sportmaster gearbox be better suited +Would it be a good idea to give the rig to someone who knows what they are doing to set it up properly?
thanks in advance Nick.

We like the stock Trophy, its cheap, it dosent walk the boat much, great holeshot, great acceleration, great top end. We can surface it a high as you want. When a blade starts to crack, put it on the shelf and get a new one (if you break it in a year, they give you a new one). The Bravo lab fin is the fastest for us so far, but it walks the boat more, costs more too, but alot stronger. ET never worked for us.

Mike who races the Airtours P21 with 2.5 efi uses a 26 Yam drag prop with good results. When Hutchy tested it just before Coniston with a 26 Trophy plus it ran 87.

One assumes you're trimming the moor out to acheive top end? one would expect it to be quite light & tricky to drive if it's trimmed in the required region for best top speed. if it feels safe and steady, you're probably running too conservatively. (on the trim)

I was trimming out quite a bit but think i could have gone out further ,if i am right i was around 3-3.5 on the guage and on the smartcraft guage, the previous owner had put a mark on the 5 but i thought that was where trim changed to tilt .How far can you trim out whilst moving fast?.PS.came down to see Swipes at the Excel, a lovely piece of kit. Thanks Nick.

props
a raker prop is faster than all that has just been quoted, ask hutchy what prop he had when he got the outboard record. I know because it is mine.

Hi all, i tried on a P21 with a Yami 225 a Yam pro series 23 ,and then a Raker 24 which i purchased from an X 2L OCR boat after the XR2 were removed completely , the Raker was 3miles faster than the Yami pro series so i let him borrow . but just after only last weekend i guess the Yami is faster than ma Raker as i got i call from ma M8 who i lent him ma Raker for some time and said he fooked up when recovering on sleep and putting engine onto forward gear to help recovering and knock knock knock did all 3 blades to the slip , so u can immagine how prop looks now that i told him i did not wana see it @ the moment either,
