Who's a busy boy then!
Simon Wood Power new vice chairman of Superyacht UK
By IBI Magazine
Oval 316's managing director Simon Wood Power has been officially appointed by the committee of Superyacht UK to the position of vice chairman.
Superyacht UK is a marketing initiative set up two years ago to promote the British superyacht industry into international markets.
The appointment is in recognition of the work that Wood Power carried out in the promotion of the Superyacht UK since he joined as a committee member just over a year ago.
Commenting on the appointment Wood Power said: "It has been truly wonderful to have the support of the committee as well as my peers who have shown such faith in me through this appointment. It has been a challenging and fulfilling 12 months and I am very excited at the prospect of becoming more intimately involved in the direction and ultimate success of Superyacht UK. It is a fantastic initiative and it is doing great work promoting this industry, we are already seeing tangible results."
Over the past year Wood Power has been involved in developing and implementing a five-year plan intended to aggressively promote British superyacht building expertise and craftsmanship.
As an integral part of the initiative and for the third year running, SuperYacht UK will host a delegation of international representatives from the superyacht industry. The contingent, consisting of superyacht designers, project managers, build consultants, captains, brokers and owners' representatives, will visit the UK on March 21, 2006.
Wood Power continued: "We already have delegates from the US, Monaco, Germany, Turkey, Holland, France and Italy with more registering by the day. The response has been very positive and it is clear that the word has spread since last year's event and people realise its value. The tour will focus on designers and equipment manufacturers in Hampshire, the shipyards at Devonport and Pendennis, and showcase presentations and networking activities with the UK's premier superyacht equipment suppliers, service companies and designers."
