Yours was stepped. From the pic of Sakes' one, it appears to be the non stepped original hull form.
I think the original 27's would be lucky to break 60 with a 200.

It was a 2.5efi, and Chris wasn't involved in the fitting of it, although he did used to specialise in Revengers!

I would of gone for 300x rather than 300 xs. 300xs is close to 280/290 hp no matter what merc say. I know i,ve tried on in the states. Or suzuki,s new 300 four stroke . but at 330 hp the 300x still got more geee geees.

That's pretty strange - got any dyno numbers?
a couple of Checkmate tests suggests the XS having closer to 315hp as the a mate 21 runs around 85 with the X and 83 with the XS.. Several other tests suggest the same - fishing mags, outboards mags etc..

The X was not a option for Sake as he wanted a new engine - with a reasonalbe fuel economy..

would have loved a X my self - but my 250XS Dyno'ed at 286) does pretty well on my P21..

Hi Lars,

You are right about the feul , and about the Hp the 300XS puls, i have to be honest that the 300 is not a big diffrents against the 250XS. My 2006 250 xs was also a very very good motor,

Hi, can anyone explain this!!!

max rpm cc gear box ratio.

300x 6800 3032 1.75 tm

300xs 6100 3160 1.75tm

250xs 5800 3032 1.75tm

so if a 250xs 286 hp

a 300x is 343 hp

and a 300xs is 300 hp

based on 14.4 % power increase. ( the difference between a standard 250 xs and your 286hp.

anybody had a 300xs dyno'ed or a 300x.

What did you find.

Another way to determine what power output a certain outboard is making is fuel consumption.
This only works on regular 2 strokes (assumed they are properly tuned )with EFI or carbs, not on DI engines, although they come very close at full throttle.
Every outboard EFI carb 2 stroke uses avout 10 % of its power output (full throttle)in gallons an hour ,so a 300x for example should burn 30 gallons an hour ,but it did use 28,8 gall a hour on a calibrated fuel flow meter.
The old promax 300 was also rated at 300 hp,but it actually pulled not more than 27 gal /hour,so estimated BHP should be 270-275 .
You can easily look it up at Bass&Walleye magazine USA,its a great magazine with all independent tests, and they do comparisons too.
Almost every outboard is tested there, maybe they store the test results on their site.

I'm sure this is true but on the XR2 for example you make the motor leaner to increase hp hence using less fuel. Also on the yamaha and tohastu 130/140 you would make the fuel jet smaller making the motor leaner as int he XR2. Same again smaller jet use less fuel.

Rev limit on a 300XS is 6400, not 6100

Hava a look at www.mercuryracing.com and look at products 300xs you will clearly see 5400 - 5800 then 5400 - 6100 on 20" models and not 6400.

Sure ,thats right ,but any hotter than 1250 degrees and your burning a piston ,that is on the edge ,and outboard manufacturers never are so close.
They need to be proper tuned for the temperature and elevation where you do your boating.
Also the weight of the boat ,propellor ,speed etc play a rule here.

Thats why it is a general rule (10 % of its rated HP in gallons an hour)
It could be off on some racing engine,s that run extremely lean.
