Here's a good thread on engine and prop setup - The Setup Thread

A lot depends on your propeller, it's the easiest and cheapest way of getting more performance from your boat.
Thanks Roflhat. But what is the engine height measured off? and what are the engine trim -1 (spaced 5mm negative)These figures mean nothing to me.

Engine height in that thread is measured off the top of the transom, so how high the engine sits. There's another thread which compares how high that is in relation to the bottom of the hijackers.
A good starting point is to have the centre of the prop shaft in line with the bottom of the hijcakers. You can go up from there (less prop in the water = more speed).
Try with the pin in the second hole from the transom, if you can get a video of your boat going along so I can advise you on trim.

Engine trim is just the trim pins on the engine, so trim 1 = first trim pin hole in the engine.

You won't have to space the engine out unless you run surface-piercing props (choppers/cleavers).

What engine have you got? And what propeller?

Got a Tohatsu 50 but don't know what prop until I have the boat delivered.

I use a 15p SOLAS for all round. Good grip in the surf and turns and a top speed of 43 knots. I had mine cupped so it's more like 16p but my crew weight is very light. My mate also uses a 15p SOLAS. Have a look at the setup thread on the thundercat site, most guys use the same all round prop.
I have one for sale just now (not the one I use). I've never run it, it's in mint condition ready to go, £150 shipped to your door - http://www.boatmad.com/forum/f9/11x15p-solas-27109.html
