Long distance class 3 racing
Just been reminded by one of our "Pirates" Andy Hiscock about what I would call "proper offshore racing" for the class 3 fleet. Five hours of hard and painful racing from London to Calais and back to London. These boats are well capable of doing these long races but do the crews and organisers have the stomach to run such races? There's still the Cowes/Poole/Cowes race which isn't happening anymore. Why not Southampton/Poole/Southampton? That would be a real test of man and machine - based out of Drivers!

Would get me back to doing a few races - but then again I'm probably from a different racing age!
But for me offshore racing was so much about different conditions, tactics, navigation - and the whole challenge of it too.
Also I think it encourages different approaches to racing, boats and ultimately design and development.
But on the negative side - so difficult to organize nowadays.

Well that looks like the end of that one then. No one interested in a long distance Class 3 race. Times have changed obviously.
And there was a possibility of a Round The Island but as no club is interested we will have to do it as a Poker Rally .......

Mate. You need to open your eyes and look around. There are only 4 class 3 boats currently racing, and these are 115hp boats so they're unlikely to have the range to get round the island.
Where are these long distance class 3 boats going to come from?

DQHM told me that as long as it was before 30th April (before the holiday season) a Round The Island could run!! In all probability you could run one in September/October when the holiday season is over.

SEPA are very quiet on this one. Come on Barry, you could run a race from Ramsgate to Brighton dead easy. It would be a tough one to take part in but it would be a PROPER race.
I'm beginning to sound like Ray Bulman!

We've done round the island this year for Macmillan cancer trust, 65 plus boats turned out, nice day out and did good money for a good cause.
There's boats and people out there I just think they don't want all the crap that goes with organised club events, I'm thinking that the poker runs are pound for pound the best way to have fun
