Benalmadena sorted! Very hot down there at 30C. Alan has been changing shirts every three hours and has had to buy much lighter ones! He did say that any boats racing with canopies are going to cook unless they have some sort of airflow or air conditioning. More later. Now in Alicante.

Alicante, the 8th venue of this epic race is sorted. This is the HQ of the Volvo Round The World Yacht Race and therefore the facilities are magnificent. The good news is that all the race boats will be moored in the same area so that should be fun!

It’s looks increasingly unlikely that we will be allowed into Marseilles, they are apparently about to decide that the Bay is to be designated a “Green Zone”, what it means is that they don’t want nasty powerboat racers fouling up their bay. So the Greenies strike again!
So, its plan B – see attached. This is by no means certain but a strong possibility, will have to check it our first. Actually it looks a much nicer venue so it’s not all bad.

That's a shame, I did some work out there in 07 at Compositeworks, and the town is a bit of a dump!
Seem to remember that the hotels weren't all that good either, so I'd keep your fingers crossed for Marseille.

That's not what I have heard but we shall see. We are only there for 24hrs but if its no good there are plenty of other venues around there such as the one they visited in 1972 - La Grande Motte or even Toulon!

I've only been to Marseilles once, but I defenitely would describe it as a dump also. So no loss

The John Caulcutt Story
I recently found a write up on The 1972 London to Monte-Carlo Race in a magazine from the 1970's. The author was writing about Johnny Caulcutts experiences during that race. The reproduction is not good but you should be able to read it -just. It's an amazing story of pure guts and determination to live. Great story, will have to ensure that no one in our race has to go through being in the water for almost nineteen hours with no hope of rescue.

Car Stickers
Looking great. One drawback, cars behind come up too close to see what the sticker says!

Mods to Marathon Rules.
As I have rather a large number of CMC2013 Race Teams buying and building boats right now it would be appreciated if SOMEONE would let me know what the latest mods to the Marathon rules are which have just been ratified by the UIM - so that I can advise the CMC2013 fleet.
If I post this enough times I might just get an answer!!

CMC2013 Now Ratified by UIM
Just received the very best of news from the RYA. At the recent Cominoff meeting in Abu Dhabi, the RYA applied for our event to be granted UIM World Cup status, I am delighted to be able to confirm that this was approved by the Cominoff delegates, we are therefore clear to refer to the event as the UIM Cowes to Monte-Carlo World Cup 2013 and can now use the UIM logo. .
Now all we have to do is find a cup worthy of the name!!

Rob Beakhust
Quite an emotional day down in Poole seeing Rob Beakhust off on his last journey. So many people were there - standing room only and not much left of that. Good to see so many old friends and faces. The usual excellent reception at Dorset Lake - Robs and Annies old haunt, and it was good to talk to those who are going to be influential in the CMC/2013.
An old friend Viv Williams caused much hilarity when he stated that he and a few others were going to start an exclusive club, The " I have been fired by Mike Lloyd" club - great fun and true actually!

I nearly got fired by my then girlfriend, now wife, Suzy because of Mike Lloyd, and some photos on the foredeck of Flippin Eck in Liverpool. (Still waiting for them Mike!).
As Mike says good to see everyone at Rob's. He and Annie would have been smiling down at us I am sure.
