The guessing game is on ... could it be ... Saint-Tropez, Cannes, Nice, Sanremo or my Favorite go the extra miles into Italy as they have always been big on powerboats and haul up at Genoa, although granted Genoa looks like a working port, but maybe that's not a bad thing

Does it really matter that we don't find out until the 24th?

If the organisers couldn't lock down Monte Carlo as the final Port of Call (and title of the Event) after 2 years - You slightly have to wonder what else is missing.

It's a fair point if you are a pessimist - I lean towards giving people the benefit of the doubt- the next amount of money is due before the 1st of December which gives everyone a week after the meeting to decide if they have the answers they require to commit to the race.
As you know from an organisers point of view you have to have the faith of the competitors and I think that is what was missing from the RB12 event from early days - I know everyone will want firm answers to many questions next Saturday - we will see what happens!

The next briefing will be all about substance and detail.
As I've already said, it's not appropriate to comment publicly on the Monte-Carlo situation at this time - this will be explained in full at the briefing. However we do have some significant positives to report around the race finish.
Cookee's 100% right in that we have nothing if we don't have the support of a suitable number of teams. That's where our focus began, and where it remains. We continue to do our utmost to support and inform them wherever and however possible.

Cookee I am not a pessimist, I am a pragmatist.
If I was looking to run North Head to wherever next year, by now I would want to know exclusion zones (rumour has it boats will have to run 30 NM Offshore off the Portugal coast - To miss pots and other fishing regalia) so I could plot my courses.
Fuel supplies - Those legs are serious Nautical Miles, could I get my Bananashark on the plane juiced up with 370 miles in front of me?
The list is endless. No doubt Blimp will supply you all with the answers.

Good question and we would be able to get on the plane - we will be adding a pair of small extra tanks for the longest legs and we will build them to the size we need once the route is confirmed.
Of course if we wanted we could stop and refuel somewhere if we deemed it faster overall but the amount of extra fuel we would need wouldn't be that great for us as we are very economical!

In my opinion Mike and his team have a track record that far exceeds anyone else in planning, arranging and hosting of multi-leg marathon events. I for one have no doubt that this team will give us a fantastic event that we will remember for a long, long time, and cheap and pointless remarks at this time seem unnecessary to me. Everyone seems to agree that offshore racing needs all the help it can get, and we should all pull in the same direction. Let Mike spend his precious time on making this race the best race in history, instead of wasting it on answering unneccesary questions.
If you need 6 months to plot in a course, maybe this race is not for you .

Agreed.
And you could argue that anyone who has not entered does not have an opinion. Also agree that the competitors should be informed first.
However every team enters for a different reason.
Had we entered then we would of started a couple of days earlier from London as one of the reasons for entering this great race for me was to do London to Monte Carlo.

Well said Phatfrank!! Too many people are too quick to criticise it seems, the sport as a whole needs everyone to get behind this and make it the huge success it deserves to be!

Couldn't agree more Paul and PhatFrank. This race absolutely needs everyone's full support and none of the usual 'lets pull this apart and try to make it fail' crap.
I'm chuffed as hell to see it now coming up the little russel and passing Guernsey, it's going to be an awesome race and I'm confident Mike will pull it out of the bag, no matter how late some of the smaller details are in coming. A little bit of uncertainty all adds to the fun!
Best of luck Mike and Team,
James

I though boatmad was a forum for opinions. Some you will agree with and others you won't otherwise it may as well be renamed.
Even organisers of racing may ( with inverted commas ) get some feed back from either ex racers, prospective racers or observers. It's there perogative to pick the bones out of what they read.
Please come forward if any one on boatmad believes that comments on here is going to stop some one from entering this race.
What is going to stop anyone entering is broken promises and bullsh_t (2012)
Honesty is the best policy
What pissed us of and others in 2008,the organisers need boats to enter to make it a race but ignored the majority of the racers in the PR and on the video
Just check out the video. Wet wet wet punkkkkkkk, Silver Silver Silver and gold gold gold.
Anyone remember who came fourth

...but who cares. The important thing is that we get an opportunity to RACE.
Don´t think that Mike cares much about the moaning as it always comes from the same people.
Boatracing and gocartracing seems to be the worst places.
Same problem here in Sweden.

Who will be the first to tell us all ?
