The Venture Cup,
For the curious, there are just 13 boats who have paid their entry fees on time and want to race to Monaco/Nice. These are the REAL offshore racers who want to take part in this great 2,400 mile challenge.

Dean Gibbs
Phil Payter
Dag Ragmussen
Nick Wilkinson (HTS)
Mikko Oikari (All Black Racing Team)
Ole Finholt (Chief Offshore Team)
The Copenhagen Racing Team
Boss Powerboats
Gordon Compton
Grey Ghost Team
Francis Whiteley
Markus Hendricks
Goldfish

Still 12 is not bad going in this economic climate, especially adding in all the logistics of such a long haul race for all the crews involved ... however it would be nice to see after all the hard work put into making this event happen at least a fleet of double that take part

Personally, although not a racer, but like many others on here just a follower ... I'd like to say thank you to people like Mike who put so much effort into getting boats onto start lines ... I doubt if it wasn't for the RB event, the marathon racing fleet in the UK would never have got off the ground or ( should I say in the water ) and like many enthusiasts I have enjoyed watching these marathon boats over the last few years ( On a personal front I would like to see a few more short laps put in for the spectators - but hey I know it's called Marathon for a reason ) so I think what I'm trying to say is that when people like Mike are gone - this sport will be in a much darker place

Will answer that question Tuesday.

A combination of circumstances and your name struck a cord. I remember a film about a Lancaster Bomber returning from it's raid on Germany and crossing back across the channel on one engine and slowly losing height with the crew staring out of the cockpit windows at the white cliffs of Dover looming up and wondering if they had enough height to get over them. Should they ditch or chance it.

A little ludicrous I know and a bit dramatic but sums up our situation right now - just about right.

Deepest apologies to Boss Powerboats for not including them in the listing. Original post now altered to reflect this.

Some of you will remember that a couple of years ago there were three new British 34ft powerboats being built. Cookee's, Mike Rings and Boss.

It's a sad fact that Robing Hyde & Tim Remingtons 34ft Boss is the only one who has decided to take part in this race.

Mike,

We are still ready to race as I told you. We did not transfer the money yet as you told us to do. Anyway count us in we came all the way until now, have a new boat ready, have everything set. So go on, this race must go on, if not it will be a disaster for marathon racing.

Thomas, that's great to hear: This race can happen, it will happen, we need to be talking it up, we need to be positive. Team Hendricks are very excited, and have paid. New boat coming on, should be in the water for mid April.

Just to confirm our position on this. We, and our main sponsor, had questions following on from the meeting in Portsmouth that required answers and/or some clarity. Aidan has kindly given as many answers as he is able to at this time following our email communications. We have a couple of outstanding questions which should be resolved shortly. As soon as we have these we will release the outstanding monies. Aidan is aware of this. Our boat build is near completion (early Jan) and we are ready to go.
