This is very emotional news for us. It looks as though we will have all three members of the winning team HTS from 1972 at the pre race party in Cowes and at the Prize Giving Ball in Monte-Carlo in June 2013 - Mike Bellamy. Eddie Chater and Jimmy Brooker!

This news is bigger than Donzi helping Dan. I photographed Mark when he raced in F1, so got to know the family when Craig was still a youngster. Then worked with the team during their time in P1. Without doubt they were the most professional team on the tour, this was clearly demonstrated by the titles they won. I wouldn't be surprised if they even tempted Mr Sheppard out of retirement.

Notice to all Registered Race Teams for the 2013 Cowes to Monte-Carlo Powerboat Grand Prix:

A Bulletin is being sent out to you shortly detailing your initial deposit and entry fee terms.

Due to the latest surge in demand for places we are upping the limit on race boats taking part from 50 to 55 and therefore the first 55 deposits received and cleared will be in the race. The remainder will go onto a reserve listing. As soon as we receive your initial non-refundable deposit you will be informed of your position in the race listing.

We now have thirteen countries represented.

It's interesting to see the choice people are making with regard to the type of boat that they wish to use in the 2013 Cowes to Monte-Carlo.

In the RB08 it was roughly 75% RIB's and 25% hard boats. This time round, from the emails I am seeing, it is more like 80% hard boats and 20% RIB's. Also there are not going to be many boats under 30ft, if any.

This flies in the face of the popular conception that RIB's are better sea boats, obviously this is not the case as far as the majority of competitors in this race are concerned who would have thought this through very carefully bearing in mind the distance and the type of seas they are going to encounter.

May be down to the fact that there are few ribs in excess of 30ft. Ring & Buzzi are, I think, only people currently making a 40ft ish rib that may be suitable for the job. And a Buzzi certainly would cost a fair amount more than plenty of similar sized hard boats.

Very exciting to watch from the 'outside' hope there are some positive movements on sponsors - though it sounds that should it have to be run in a 'corinthian' style as per RB08 then the competitors are more than up for it.

There could well be some more in this size range.....

I'm working on a very exciting multi step race / leisure design for Renegade RIBs - for the C-MC race and others.

Also Technohull have a 12m design of mine that will hopefully go into production as well - with possibly a race version.

34 Race teams have now paid their 1st deposits which were due on the 15th February. The remainder are being slow! Entries are on a first come first served basis so the first 55 to pay their deposits will be in this race.

Confirmed numbers will be needed when visiting the proposed venues for berthing and fuel requirements.

All venues will have been visited by our team by October this year.

Parr for the course

Does that mean you don't have to pay the remainder of the entry fee once the deposit been paid

Also of course the PPG 11M - as raced with outboards - and the only one of the 'new' British boats to make it to the start line last year.

For the real long distance events this would be fantastic with a pair of diesels.

So a few RIB options....

Extract from the 1972 London to Monte-Carlo Racing Instructions kindly donated by Tim Powell.

“Co-operation with Race Officials. The London to Monte-Carlo Race is going to be a long and exhausting event and the later stages will be carried out in much higher temperatures than most of us are used to. The result of all this is that tempers on all sides may well wear a little thin!! Please bear in mind that our officials will be just as tired as you are”.

Am definitely going to have to use that and more. So much fantastic information in these instructions that we can use. I see that some briefings were at held at 06.15 with race starts at 07.30 on the longer legs. These are going to be looooooong days!
