Arcidiavolo is back

Arcidiavolo is back. Brunello Accampora had renderings on his website before but I never thought they would become reality. Now Cantieri di Sarnico comes up with a bigger version:

Arcidiavolo......One of the more original and effective project of the history of the offshore races to work of the genius Renato "Sonny" Levi.
The up-side-down tricycle with a single engine(originally a BPM 8V) with surface drives.
Any hull to the world brought so so many innovations together. To the beginning to set every thing was hard, with problems in the trasmission shaft, find the right proper, the powerless BPM... but idea was correct, often this boat of Class 2 fought the noble OP1s and the other competitors of the OP2 they were systematically left behind miles and miles, but that first Arcidiavolo(Archdevil) collected only a record of do not finish in the two seasons 1974-75.
Then was builded a second one Arcidiavolo;it was built at the same shipyard Acquaviva and basic design was the same, although the engine had boom moved right to the stern and the wing lowered to increase lift and was lighter.
The BPM was sobstituted by a powerful Aeromarine from the dismantling Team Martini of Bonomi.
That year Arcidiavolo(II) set the new class II world speed record at 78 mph, when in Usa Tom Gentry with the Cigarette 35' American Eagle set the new world speed record at 88! Only 10mph with double power!
Arcidiavolo won the class II at Gran Prix Porto Roma and was second overall behind De Angelis.
Giorgio Tognelli was the driver and Antonio Soccol the navigator/driver of the two Arcidiavolos.
Many Thanks to olli for remember to us a legendary offshore name.
The first two pics are the first version of Arcidiavolo in 1974. The third is the second version end fourth in the CTC start in 1976.

Hi Tim,Carlo Sereno at that time owner of Stain of Turin, built the third not Fausto Atzori.
It was Shot, driven by Giorgio Acquaviva in only one race;VBV 1976.
Atzori when became the owner of the Stain wanted to rearrange the Shot bringing changes in the early of the nineties, but the project was abandoned then.

Here the tin version during the building in the Stain in 1975 and in the remake with jet cockpit in the early of nineties.
On the last boat had to race the Italian former bankrupt-man Ambrosio involved years before in the murder under a bridge in London of the other bankrupt-man Pietro Calvi.
Fortunately the race project failed.

Press Release

Press Release

April 2008

Arcidiavolo doubles up: GT and GTS

The Arcidiavolo GT concept boat from Cantieri di Sarnico will become a production AND race boat. The tests completed by the prototype have confirmed that the “overturned tricycle” hull designed by Renato Sonny Levi and interpreted in modern form by Victory Design possesses qualities that deserve to be applied in both the recreational and competitive sectors.

The 'street' version will be equipped with two turbo diesel Yanmar blocks of 480 horse power for a maximum speed of 69 mph. The standard model is white, but metallic paint and custom graphics will also be available allowing customers the chance to personalise their already exceptional crafts. Sporting character can be added to the daring Arcidiavolo GT, which can be enriched and refined with accessories like leather upholstery, cabrio tops and a bow cabin with bathroom. There are also options for tuning; steel propellers and exclusive helmets branded with the Arcidiavolo logo, not to mention high power stereo systems.

The GT S version will be even more aggressive and will be driven by two Mercury Racing engines of 850 horsepower each. This model will not be available for pleasure boating and will only be used in sporting events, or by licensed pilots and will reach (according to the data provided by the project) a maximum speed of 92 mph (about 150 km/h). This special edition (which will be built in a limited production capacity only) will have numbered identification plates indicating the name of the owner and is already being dubbed a collector's item.
