If memory serves, 111 was also Roger Fletcher's no. on 'Shockwave'.

BP Explorer - or something like that - built as a very expensive experimental with gas turbine unit. Very narrow stern with a massive retracting plate (dynaplane).
She was none too stable by all accounts!

BP Explorer
Yep, I agree with Adam, it sat in East Cowes for a very long time just next to the chain ferry. It was designed by some aeronautical engineer and as Adam says had a variable shaped hull that never worked. Turbine engine into surface drives. Probably a very large hole in the water into which you could poor a lot of money and never see any results ! Haven't been to Basildon for about ten years but it doesn't look like they have dusted since the last time I was there !

Here's a post from the owner......
http://boatdesign.net/forums/showthread.php?t=7243
l am the fortunate....but poor owner of the dynaplane vessel 'pacesetter'.....genuine Eugene clemence/williamson design high speed monohull.....originally powered by rolls royce gnome gas turbine ....achieved 103mph from just 800 hp......this is a 42ft all welded aluminium vessel.....built by british hovercraft comp UK 1979
lm looking for a good home for her.....her restoration is beyond my means.......new turbine and refit required......make me a sensible offer for this unique vessel

Got a feeling that she either turned over on tests or hooked and spat out the crew - which was then hushed up.
Looking at the narrow stern - not surprising

Must be some years ago now (10 ?) , but could well be the present owner, contacted me about re-designing the cockpit / deck area.
I seem to remember he knew about the good bits of it's history and was very enthusiastic - but had to raise a lot of money to get her back on the water.
Remember the boat sat in the Westlands (or BHC then) yard at East Cowes for many years before that - alongside the Black & White Whisky gas turbine cat of Iain Nurse.

With those adjustable foils (?) on the transom, I assume it picks the arse up, runs on them & the fwd step, hence the low rudders/prop, hydrofoil stylee.
Looks like a recipe for getting very wet, very quickly and without any warning.
