Yes, that one was straight from Marine Diesel in Sweden, but they haven't proved terribly good in the performance department.

these are the 6.5 litre AM General motors, same block as I have in my 28.

Dropped in on Cookee today to see how his project is developing. Seems they have a lot of cool ideas and really impressed with the set up they have there. Keep up the good work

Supercharged-Turbo Diesels Engine Size ?

Has anyone got any other ideas as to what diesel would be best? The class E is a 6.5 litre total limit with the next class up being 10 litre, and the one beyond that being 13 litre, although we would need a bigger boat for that class I think!

Happy to consider anything, but power to weight is the critical factor as well as reliability.

Thanks![/QUOTE]

Just bored at work and reading PB1 does the above engine max capacity take into consideration Rule E17 'E' 'Diesel engine if Turbo or Supercharged the cylinder capacity to be multiplied by 1.4'.Interestingly it makes no mention of Spercharging Gas engines,I might be me reading this rule completely out of context but thought it worth a mention as Marathon Rules now under PB1 I believe.Nic

No, capacities are for normally aspirated petrol motors, and forced induction diesel motors.

When I was considering Steyrs, I think that one is set up for jets? Not sure if it's that one or the 280hp?

Arre the marinised BMW motors as good at chucking bits of nuts/bolts and plastic into the inlet manifolds as the car ones, Should you buy one please ask about swirl flaps... a common problem in the cars

Nor sure but they have a different turbo and some other alterations - it has a wastegate whereas the car engine has variable turbo or something?

Arneson Drives

There is an opportunity to join the team - see this thread http://www.boatmad.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13829

It will still be a racer cruiser with a V berth, small chemical heads/bucket and a small galley with a sink and cooker for making tea - all removable for racing of course! See the layout below.
Some Arneson drives advertised for sale on Offshore only-not sure if any good but thought worth a mention,Nic
