Love all these old pics!! Exactly the era that got me hooked when I was 7 or 8 years old hanging around the pits of Powerboat Week every night with my dad!

and more pits ... not sure if the Cougar Mono JF was refering earlier to, is this one with its nose sticking out in the photo of SDA leaving to race pic 1, and although I shouldn't say so, you can see builders bottom in pic 3

Sashas Flowers

I remember some years ago I was on my to Guernsey to watch the Racing,on the way to Southampton we passed 'Sashas Flowers' going up Southampton waters.
On the flight over we saw a boat in mid channel and joked it was them.
It was ,as it was in the pits when we had a look round later that day.
Did it belong to the 'Strutton' family(hope spelling is correct).

Hi Nige ... a few more pics of it coming towards you, and it appears to be a mono hull, must admit I don't recall over the years any other particular type of 3 pointer racing, also cant recall if it was petrol or diesel although I would imagine it was diesel as it appeared as large as a 46' Cougar. I always had an interest in the revolutionary 3 pointer boats from the Blagg to the Buzzi tri-cats that set records, so I would have probably paid a lot more interest if it had of been a 3 pointer

And another shot of Kent Koi defo would be nice to see this return with Ilmores

'90 & '91 it went over to guernsey on it's bottom.

It was Dick Strutton's class one race boat, 'Reg Haynes & son TOYOTA', a triple Sabre powered Cougar 46 he raced in 1986 (new build & rig by Jimmy Brooker), that I re-engined in 1990 with triple HP465 Mercruiser motors. it was re-fitted out for pleasure etc. Used as a pleasure boat for a few years as Sasha's Flowers/Regan (Sasha and Regan were two of Dicks offspring).
Sold to America mid 90's.

The quad engined Mariner Magazine class II cat (ex Robert Cook Aquaglide, a Joe Donohoo creation) seen in those pics also went over on it's bottom in the hands of Dave Alenby & cousin Chris, as did the Hunton NPC II boat Hells Angels (ex Lady Arran) in the hands of Ed Williams-Hawkes & crew.

I seem to remember Mariner Magazine having an engine fire, but it's 22 years ago now, and the memory is faint.

Oh ... How unfortunate, I was rather hoping it was an exhausted boating fan worn out looking at all the nice boats ... but now you point out its one of the boating boatmad crew ... I'd like to appologies and say ... err ... what a nice bottom

The other thing that concerns me is how quickly you recognised Clive's assets ... had he done a bit of building for you

One of the great things with the powerboats is their were huge boats needing an army to maintain and a massive wedge to buy and support ... and then their were the more modest boats for the everyday guy who wanted a bit of the action ... such as 3B, that could possibly be looking at a revival over the last few years since Adams new smart 22' boat

Guess the Phantom won as they are waving their hands in the air or maybe not, just waving to the crowd, the cat in the pics appears to be out front and in the relatively calm conditions that should be the more likely winner, anyone know

The cat looks like Guernseys own racing royalty Pete Wilson before he moved up to the Argo 21 with the XR2 which then became Lovely Jubbly

It is, racing as 'Valentino's' a restaurant in Guernsey that sponsored him I think.

He always had the '7-UP' thing too.

Ciao will know.

7

7 is Peter Wilson's lucky number.

When we raced together we booked table 7 for dinner and made sure he was in room 7 for his sleep.

When we took the 3B cat through the Dartford toll, Wilson made me go through number 7 booth.

Fairly sure that was Peter's first 3B Argo - (first raced in 1987).

(For younger Guerns Pete did buy a yellow Argo 21' for 3C but didn't enjoy racing in it)

Forgot to say, I was pulled over by the police 5 times in 1995 for having a number plate 7 whilst towing the raceboat.

Ooops, not sure how I got that one wrong just checked outside the back door in-case SB has sent a shifty man in dark clothing round to correct my blasphemy ... I knew I "Should've gone to Specsavers"

However, here I really hope is a Phantom from the same race, although I have no idea where it came ... but I assume they had fun and that's what matters
