Great job you are doing. I fully understand how challenging it is to long to prepare everything from slides. I myself did some years ago and the result was not like what you're getting. I hope that you will master as soon as possible what appears to be a good document alongside those of Graham and Nigel.
Marco

BTW: a correction to the name of the third picture of this post: Not the Miura, but rather the Sun International / Onyx of Casiraghi (Abbate 38 'aluminum) at the CTC in 1985.

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement.. old slides are hard.. even when they've been kept somewhere clean.. looks like the film is breaking down or something... so many tiny marks that seem to be in the film itself, rather than just being dust.. worth the effort when they turn out nice though.

Thanks for the photo name correction.. I wasn't too sure on which boat that was.. but now i know.. its a complete mine of information in here!

Heres something i found over the weekend.. some old news cuttings I'd collected as a kid.. still in their scrapbooks.. a bit yellow with age.. but hey.. this cutting was from when Black Tornado and all those other amazing monohulls was going to be on BBC TV.. excitement!!

Blessed are you who had the live tv for the CTC!
However, the poster of the show lacked any of the three main actors. Balestrieri indeed tired and demoralized by the thousand problems experienced so far in the 1971 season he decided to pull the boat aground.

So remind me what was your ex Father In Law's name? I raced in the back of Pegasus in Cowes after he shortened it. Didn't he have a double galzing company or something? I remember having some cylinders of pub gas in the back directed down onto the cavitation plate, to get on the plane I had to open the valves to blow gas all over the prop! Can't even remeber the year either, its all a blur ! But I always liked that old boat, I think it was cut up for scrap having languished in Hamble Point for a number of years.

21 Cougar was Robbie Hood's boat, the twin to The Specialist, I don't think it was Tracey's but I could be wrong. Pete Currington would know.

Of course Reg Steele, I remember now. I got a call from him a few weeks before Cowes asking if I would navigate for him, I had been recommended by someone. I met him for the first time at scrutineering. I remember now that it was air conditioning because the gas was refrigerant not pub gas! I guess he just picked up cylinders from work ...
Must have been 1985 as I finished second overall in Agfa with Tim Powell in 1984, the boat we used for the Round Britain, (rather unsuccessfully it must be said).
It was a shame because the cut and shut job on Goldrush/ Pegasus was pretty ropey, the stringers didn't line up inside or outside the hull. When the boat was shorter it was a pig to get on the plane, and then on the first lap round the Solent we did something nasty to the motor, there was a small fire from the old mechanical Kinsler injection that we had to put out. It fried some hoses and we were towed back in. I think that was the first and only time he ran the boat.
I think that then Reg sold her to a guy called Robert Windmill ?
