I'm still scanning!

Just to let Jon and Littlenige know that i wasnt messing them around.. I'm still going to send in those CDs of pics for a gallery Jon.. and im still scanning my way through my pics from the '70s '80s and '90s.. but never thought it would take this long.. the scanning is the easy bit.. its the photoshop afterwards.. straightening up my wonky horizons.. getting the colours into some sort of realism and then all the scratches and millions of tiny dots.. especially on the slides.. christ!
Anyway.. just wanted to show a few from each of the races i've completed as im now working on the rest.. expecting to have enough to send in early next year.
Its been interesting so far.. so many boats I'd forgotten I'd actually seen.. and those brilliant sunny afternoons on Poole Quay watching the craning in and out.. or bobbing up and down in a Fletcher off Bournemouth, hoping nobody was going to get lost and run over us!

Figured no point in captioning these.. other than what race and the date.. as I expect everyone here will recognise every single boat I've ever photographed, let alone the few previews below.

Hi, bloody great they are, Phantoms look so similer on them days than the later ones, i guess that is because they went well on them days too so why change em.

I think that BUTZI rib 66 ended in Dubai racing and then sold to the Kuwait team to race 6L , 2 mercs 260 were mounted on , infact the Kuwaity team still races x.cat now ( ex, ZAIN TEAM , now RAHEEB with an orange DW32 )

Great photo's thanks for sharing

The pic of Brighton 84, are you sure that's 84 as I recall it was just nasty, don't recall any boat's out to watch it for pleasure who would of ventured out that day it was just sooo miserable only recall a few stragglers on the marina wall, and I wonder if that black 3C boat in Poole 84 is the ole Ring before it exploded ... through no fault of Mike Rings boat building I might add

Hi michael.. I got an old but unused Minolta Dimage Dual Scan slide scanner of ebay and then alot of headaches getting it working on my old mac G4.. took a while and a SCSI card to get it hooked up.. but the resolution is fine at 2400 for all my old '70s and 80s slides. New scanners are either way expensive for something nice or theyre little cheap ones that are basically 5 megapixels cameras on macro.. and I read that the results can be pretty bad. Anyway the old Minolta did the job, one slide at a time.. and I then transferred the raw scans onto my newer mac and used CS2 photoshop to tidy them all up.. takes absolutely ages.. as most of the older slides had, what looked like, a black snowstorm of dots across most of the slide, plus a few scratches here and there. I found it best to sort the exposure in 'image/adjustments/levels or brightness/contrast'.. then adjust the colours using 'image/adjustments/selective colour'.. using the history pallet to get back if it started looking worse.. and then when it looks sort of okay, magnify up one corner and use a small brush and the clone tool and get rid of most of the dots.. one by one by one.. finding bits that matched the blemished bits.. moving onto the next magnified square when I'd sorted the one I was on.
No short cuts on that really im afraid.. the automated actiosn to remove dust and scratches just degrades the whole picture and so it takes about an hour to do each one.. but for me the result is worth the trouble.. getting to see the pics again clearly, pics I cant repeat, is nice.. plus they are big enough to get printed out too.

Hopefully you'll give it a go.. if you get stuck or want some help.. chuck me a scan and i'll see what I can do with it.
