Phantom info please
http://powerboatarchive.co.uk/Builde...20(Photos).pdf
I would like to know more about the 21 trimaran from Phantom boats. I see Adam had raced it mid 80's how did you find it and what were your thoughts?
I am going to make a call in the week to someone who can shed more light on it. but if anyone out there has info i would love to know more.
Paul

They were two different tri's from Phantom. Both built for Howard Wrethram originally.
The one I raced for a while was I believe a Phantom 16 split down the middle and tunnel added and then a Phantom 18 hull for central stern running surface. After Howard the boat was sold to Mick Affleck who then some year gave it to me. I raced it for the best part of a year before the Allenby's racing a Ring hooked as I was in the process of overtalking them! The boat was written off / broken up.
It certainly had some potential and was fun to drive - but I don't think it had enough advantages. For me a cat was still quicker in the calm and a mono still quicker in the rough. However it was probably quicker than a mono in the calm and a cat in the rough - back in those days! If you see what I mean.
The second Tri was a bit bigger and not sure which hulls were used. I think that had some pretty severe damage in a race at Poole and not sure if it raced again after that?

It was all cut and shut using mouldings from the other Phantom moulds.
The deck was plywood and I replaced this - not particuarly well - but I was young and all part of a learning curve. Went very light and had to do a fair bit of reinforcing before it was strong enough for a rough race. But then again, only so much you can do with 4mm ply!
I will sort out some photos......
