Progress pics

Thought you guys might like a few pics of where we're at.

Deck is finnished

Floor tray is finnished

Hull is finnished except for some of the bulkheads, waiting on fuel tanks before we can go much further, aluminium tanks being fabricated.

As soon as we get the tanks, the floor can go in, the deck bonded and then it's rigging time

Here's the floor liner finnished still in the mold, popped it out this morning to take a look, wish I didn't as it took up less space in there

Forgot the camera today, will take some more pics when it looks more like a boat!

Roofer, I'll let you know as soon as I know, it should handle chop reasonably well, it's a long swell that will interest me! This boat is built to take twins but this one is being rigged with a single merc. They are also built a little stronger and a little differently to the US boats, as the water over here is a lot different as you know. Still trying to keep the weight down too though

John, you would be correct, it is a skater based boat, I bought the molds from Lightning Powerboats in Sarasota.

Phill, thanks, it's a good bit of work to build one, a lot more than I thought but still doing OK.

A couple more pics, kinda scratching my ass a bit witing on fuel tanks!

But heres a few of the main bulkheads and knees, theres three more sets of bulkheads to go into the sponsons that I still need to cut but the tanks will determain where they go sooo

All the bulkheads and knees are honeycomb and weigh next to nothing

Popped the floor tray out, looks great, cant wait to fit it in the boat.

The transom is in, these boats still have the original curved transom, others have made it flat, that's why all the slots in the transom, so it follows the curve nicely. I way prefere the curved transom, more hassle but it looks great.

The fuel tanks arrived, had them fabricated by Alumacraft in the UK , great work & great people!

I've had to change a few things with the fuel tank fitting from the norm with these boats to comply with CE but it's all done, just took a bit more thinking

Hoping to pull the hull and deck in the next day or two and hopefully join them some time at the week end.

A few pics...

Will do Phil! We're based about 10 mins from Dublin airport, on the waterside.

Hope to be ready soon, although the first one is taking longer than anticipated, but thats to be expected I suppose, had hold ups with tanks, measurements, head scratching, etc, now we're waiting on all the hardware and seating! Plus I still have to fit in other work too!

Popped the hull out this morning and it looks killer! I CANT WAIT to get the deck on and get stuck into the finnishing/ rigging.
This is going to be one sweet boat!

Hi Phil, sorry I thought I replied already.

Boat weight is estimated to be around 700kg, yes there will be a package price, with a range of motor choices, single and twin. Still waiting to iron out the details with engine suppliers and the CE people for max HP/ weight etc.

Pulled the deck yesterday and stuck it up on top for a look. This boat is SWEET

Not much else done as have been neglecting other work for a while now

Very nice! What material are those stringers? Are they 100% water resistent?

Still have your hydro?

greets Glenn

Glenn, Thanks, there are no stringers in the hull as such, only one in the deck, the bulkheads, knees, tunnel core and hull side core is honeycomb, the running surface is high density foam and the deck is balsa cored. The transom is BS1088 Gaboon plywood, with a 25 year manufacturers guarantee, and it was EXPENSIVE!

Yes I still have the Hydro too, just no time to use it! Dont think I could ever sell it, not yet anyway, it's way too much fun!

My transom is also made of wood wit 25years guarantee. It is indeed very expensive. Is honeycomb a product which you can replace the traditional wooden stringers with? Or is it not strong enough?

I'm folowing this thread on this board and the other too It is very nice work if i see those pics. Is the mould yours?

greets

Yes, you can use honeycomb for stringers, lay the core out on a bench with enough size in core to do all your work, glass both sides and cut your stringers from this sheet.
Just make sure to putty or round off the top and glass over it when it's in place this will stop it trying to delaminate.

Yes the moulds are mine.

Just thought I'd stick a pic up for you guys, been insanely busy with repair work all summer, thought I'd have most of the build done before the summer started but with everything taking twice as long as it should have I got lumped with work instead of working on the cat!

Should be water ready in the next week or two and get the CE sea trials done soon after!
