Seeing Double
I`ll name that boat in one!
I think I`ve fallen victim of a Buzzi wind up when I enquired the boat`s history, only to be told it was for a chinese client who cancelled the order.Yeah right.
In 1998 this 8,200kg ,15 metre craft won the Trieste - Monte Carlo race.Driven by Gianfranco Rossi and called Mase Two Speed ,it averaged over 2,000 miles at 50kts with peak speeds of 80kts.

Should be called 'The Pheonix'.
Bit slippery if thats the case. Buzzi did tell me the same story about the boat coming from Hong Kong.
Guess we'll never know.

Looks remarkably similar!
And wasn't the last "Wettpunkt" the former "Sony", although touted as a "new "boat.
And "Cesa 1882" could be traced all the way back the original "Nitro", couldn't it?

Cesa History
That boat goes back to `Rolly Go`in 1986,but in all the diatribe written about Cesa, I can`t say 100% that Nitro, although maybe used as a mould was actually Cesa intially.I find it quite confusing the way the diatribe has been written even though Len Bylock was the owner of Nitro/Cesa.Then again was Nitro hacked about,it`s never been clear cut.Another Buzzi mystery to wind us up.

According to his book, Nitro was too heavy, and the replacement was far lighter. Also, in the pics I've looked at, Nitro appears to have a lot more depth of topsides than R-G/Cesa. I think they're different boats.

Cesa/nitro
Yes Jon,that was my thinking.Trouble comes when you start reading Italian translated to English and the meaning sometimes gets lost, and then of course there is `Buzzi speak`which is a dialogue in itself.

Just looking in the gallery at Nitro pics. There definitely seems to be more topsides, certainly above the rubrail, and possible a little below too, but also the steps appear far less pronounced, more like White Iveco's (but poss 2 instead of 1) Very hard to see in the 3 pics I have seen in the gallery.
Graham, do you have any Nitro pics that show off the bottom / steps a little more?
A different bottom would surely mean this was indeed a different boat.

They are different boats. He made a list of all the things that were wrong with Nitro (one of those things was the weight. The story about his own scale always showing just 6 tons is a classic ), eliminated them on his next boat Rolly Go. I think Nitro became a pleasure boat and was used for racing again for Venice - Monte Carlo in '91.

Is that Red FPT pic from the Portsmouth pits on June 20th 08? that was a very wet & miserable day for us.

It seems Buzzi experimented a lot to get Nitro up to speed. When you compare that pic out of Risi's book to the pics in FF's gallery you will notice he added a second step later on.
BTW Flying Fish, I have noticed there are some pics of the Venice - Monte Carlo '91 in your magazine gallery. I think some of those shot are out of one issue of 'Mondo Barca'. In that issue also was a pic of 'Nitro' in its new colours if I remember it correctly. Could you please post that one?

Nitro Pic
Just looked through my cuttings for Nitro in 91 race, and no pics of the Nitro 50 entered under the name `Fred Brass`.Wonder what `Fred` means in Italian?
Those Red FPT pics were taken late in the day at Port Solent.I think you pitched up the next day when it was grotty.

That is not the one that I think of. The boat of German business man Fred Brass was a white/brown C&B Nautica Nitro 50, a new model with twin steps and modified deck.

Ex 'Nitro'?:
'Brass' looked similar to the one below. This is C&B's last evolution of the Nitro 50, later continued by OFF COURSE as Adrenaline 50:
and finally a poster of Mase:

The pic is from a ZF ad. I think it shows Buzzi demonstrating the boat's potential to guys from the Guardia di Finanza. I have read an article in a ZF mag at the time that GdF was looking then for a replacement for their FB MIL46/V6001.
