If the steering goes then the tie bar gives a second or two to cut the engines..
The tie bar will not hold but believ me a cat at full chat with no steering is not funny, combine that with the fact that Domenico ALWAYS raced with his eyes shut !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Achilli Motors went over atleast (capsule version) to my knowledge 7 times

Malta Mystery

It looks like it is Mr.Rodgers albeit with a bit of modification.See attachment photo.
This a Power Marine cat that I have a photo to hand. Was that really Achilli 1 revamped.Summit wrong somewhere surely.I don`t doubt what your saying Tim,but I wouldn`t mind knowing what the details were e.g.colour,race number, what races in what year.

GC spent a year (91) re modelling Achilli No 1 the stain.
I was working in the same yard (Corbelli's) some times on Giesse and watching GC work was amazing, the guy who is by trade I believe a tool maker/engineer made every piece by hand including his own surfice drives etc.
Also pieces for "HIS" Isotta's !! The man is a genious with lthes etc.
The 1st pic is the cougar Rocky/Euromarche of JP Fruit and as I said earlier when Jp got into difficulties!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! all his home cars boats etc were seized then sold of..I saw that the Conquest Rocky was for sale with 6 lambo's and trailer for 34.500 euros last year..............

So it really is Achilli revamped into boat No 35.Good God.In actual fact I have two Power Marine cats on record in 1993 ,Nos 34 & 35 which I think looked much the same. How does that fit in I wonder.

Tim, yeah, I appreciate that, but when arnesons are used on a cat, the tie bar ends up so low, that it's actually within the tunnel area as far as water flow, so in the rough stuff, it's getting clouted by 80, 100mph waves, which would likely rip it off, or at least bend it (putting the drive alignment out just a tad)

Look at the pic and you'll see what I mean.

Like I said, unusual, but not unheard of, though the external tie bar ones generally had the bar mounted up high on towers to keep out of the tunnel line.

I took pictures of both at Oostende but unfortunately I have just colorslides not digitalized yet. They had similar paintjobs but the hulls looked different and I think they had different surface drives too.
The ex Achilli must be 34.

Power Marine

Thanks Olli for your comments.I too was at Ostend and must have snapped boat 34,but need to dig it out of the archives.Boat 35 was to hand though. From memory the paint jobs were similar, but I can`t remember the
drive system or if the hulls were a lot different. If I find something I will post it if only to see how it deviated from the green/red/white Achilli.

Sorted

Good,Good.That put`s that to bed.
I reckon that`s the only time I`ve come across a builder crediting himself on another builders hull.Usually if the superstructure changes the combined builders are credited.i.e. Allday/Vosper in the case of `Gee` or Planatec/Vosper in the case of `Miss Embassy` where the fit out was all Vosper.GC obviously thought the amount of input he was doing warranted it.

Vintage Raceboats

Don`t give us all that Mr.Ciao.(I know it`s tongue in cheek). You love all this forum duelling.Just go and find some more.It usually stimulates unearthing other facts about the history of the sport.Anyway, where else could TBC regale all his ripping yarns.

It's always said money talks in so much as what can be afforded and how much spent on development...with that in mind who was the hardest hitting player in the field back then, any guesses
