Achilli Motors in Malta

Regarding TB-C's comments regarding some pictures I took of Achilli Motors. The big cat is stored in a corner of a boatyard in Malta. She still has two Lambo's under the bonnet but the old rig looks very forlorn and the two pixs I took are aweful as the cat is stuck in a corner of this small enclosure surrounded by a high wall, a Class 2 Cougar cat and rubbish. Elswhere in the yard are two aluminium Cougar Class 1 cats which I believe are new but unfinished, together with several elderly raceboats. In their chaotic workshop there is a collection of old 2 valves Lambo's and 'big blocks' . This boat yard also produces a prolific range of Phantom lookalike's.
Incidently Achilli Motors won the 1993 Maltese GP which was a round of the UIM World Class 1 championship, Finnscrew' was second and in third place was the late Leonardo Polli and Steve Curtis.

Was fun! Mr. Sewell, just like me you was buzzing to see those old race boats in the CXXXXX yard!

Having visited it, and having had a beer or two with Aarron Ciantar, I am now in the Jon Fuller camp!

Bring on the new Phantom!!

Yes, It Is For Sale

We were told Achille Motors is for sale but never asked the price as the rig looks knackered. There was two 1950 ish Morris Minor's is the yard both very neglected but neither are for sale. What could you do with Achille apart from saying you own a bit of history as the boat is hardly a classic, although I do believe it still holds the record speed for Cowes-Torquay-Cowes. I think Mr M jnr was rummaging around the xxxxxx boatyard looking for a potential RB boat.

So, no pics? Is the boat referred to this particular boat? Tim did I give you a copy of the footage of the boat from the overhead TVS chopper? Can't remember!

No Nige you didn't but would love a copy!
That "Achilli" was the Stain and was to Giancarlo Corbelli and became "Power Marine" with a pair of Isotta's, The one in Malta I believe to be the final "Achilli" which ran under the Paul Picot sponsorship..

Achilli Boats

As you were in harness with D.Achiili for a while the following is probably old hat Tim,but I cannot come to terms with Achilli Motors becoming Power Marine. This should have Inspector Marco running for his magnifying glass.

Achilli Motors (White ,then Schlax Group, then Green/White/Red)

Achilli Motors -Ottavani -Bibliko

Achilli Motors - Paul Picot - Lemonsoda

All 3 stain hulls

Ottavani /Bibliko(G.Leonetti)

N.B. That 1991 photo should read 1990 I think.

Not The Same Achilli

The photo littlenig has posted is not the same Achille I saw in Malta. The aluminium cat on the island has enclosed cockpits, Lamborghini's which we were told are started occasionally and there is a fin on the stern with a French flag on either side as we were told a French guy acquired it from Domenico Achilli. (How true that is, is anyones guess). I will download my photo from the disc later.

Sorry Graham to disagree, 2nd pic is 91
1st pic was the boat built in '87 and we ran until the end of '90..then sold to G C.
Built in time for Key West was a bitch to drive/steer due to her be an exact replica of Taxi/Babycresci..both diesel/Isotta's so after Puerto Cervo I designed a tank to move the weight/centre of gravity further aft. The tank became an extension on the tunnel and was a fraction over a meter long......
After this we were running 113mph!!!!!! a difference of more than 20 mph and a beautiful boat to race and soft ride

Those damn Achilli

Blimey, what a mixture of different info. All this stuff I quote has been related to Italian books, mags etc.One minute it all falls into place and then all this throws it completely off track.I take it GC was in the 1990 Key West World Cup,in which case I`ve no record of him racing. The only reference to Casiraghi in a stain is 1988 when he came to Guernsey in Ellesse (ex-Outsider),and the boat went on to become Tre Gazelle.Ottavani looks exactly the same as the second Achilli Motors.I`d love to hear what Marco makes of all this.Time for some paracetamol methinks.
