MOD VP type hulls were never allowed to go for mono records but you may get away with it for a super clubman record as they are mono or catamaran and a mod vp is neither but have raced in superclubman. Good Luck.

Yes interesting point mod vps do race in superclubman but there does not appear to be a superclubman record to accommodate them. We'll find out what happens on Sunday....

Friend of me from Germany has a Talon 18 with a 225 mercury promax ,he maxed out at 87 mph with some engine hop up mods .....I would think if the 150 hp is a stock engine ,that Talon 18 would run 70 mph, something like Talon said in their own catalog.

This was the only Tallon 18 built for racing, it turned my 29 Hydromotive quad 4 way past 7k with ease .... I believe someone took a grinder to the ports and exhaust chest.

Ok ,so thats not a stock engine ,the stock 150 revs only to 5800 and start losing horsepower after that ,the 150 ,s have a 2:1 ratio right ? still if the engine revs to 7000 rpm with a 29 pitch ,it runs 85 mph ...with 12 % slip.
and with 1,87 :1 at 7000 witht that prop its 90 mph with 12 % slip.
He have to turn that engine to 8000 rpm with that 29 pitcher to achieve 103 mph , and with 1,87:1 ...and 8500 rpm with 2:1
There,s no way a stock engine with porting only can survive a few 8000-8500 rpm blasts ,that heavy cast flywheel is taking your scalp ,and the cast pistons will loose their head,or come thru the side of the block together with a piece connecting rod .
If that engine is pushing that hull to those speeds ,you can,t call this a 150 hp ,but had to have at least 260 hp to do that .

I don't know the Talon, or anything about it, but don't 17' Argos manage like 80mph with a Yam 90?

I didn,t say the boat would not run the speeds you mentioned ,I only said NOT WITH 150 HP.
I can put 2 cowlings on my cat from a 150 hp mercury ,and show up in Coniston, and I,m pretty sure my cat will run around the same speed as with my current cowlings, most will say that is a fast boat for its horsepower.
I,m familiair with a Talon 18 ,and I know they wil, run those speeds ,but with 260 +HP when set up correct.
Lets see some picture,s under the cowling ,close pics please

Its possible to use a 150 mercury 2,5 ,sure ,the block is basically the same ,if you have ported the engine like a 2,5 EFI offshore ,even with steel sleeves the output would be the same ,but you have to use the internals from the HI perf engine, flywheel ,reeds, intake system,or 2,5 Carb ,s (245hp Hi perf)
Again ,the mentioned 150 hp started this here ...not the speed

i belive the steel blocks are a lot harder then the nicasil ones. I think the 2.5 efi are awesome and on that talon cat its all about whos got the biggest balls a 150 on that looks scary let a loan an efi bring on the man who can tame the cat!! jf??
