the budget didn't strech to a full set of piston rings, so they're only v3's now.

It's more or less a stretched chris cat 30 hull. That means it has a pretty small tunnel (for a 36' boat), so doesn't get much lift, and the hull is pretty much glued on the water - I believe triple 2.5efi's don't quite crack 90. Pics of em running are very very "wet" running surfaces. Apparently it is possible to make em run well, but you have to do a fair bit of work on the surfaces. I A pair of HP 500's=about 90, I'm told.

td i been readin a bit bout glassin.....
does fresh new stuff stick to old existing lay-up easily?? do you have to carry out any additional work to ensure a good mechanical bond?

This might even be the boat Tony's working on, in it's previous life - I think the race number is the same.

i finished the book! lol! the dude seems to say old an new strands wont interweave so no mechanical structure, mearly glued with the resin.... and all boats should be moulded as one to eliminate this!!!

What you mean is a "chemical bond", i guess.
Putting new resin on older surfaces means it bonds mechanically thus being less strong since it is glued to the other surface.
Chemically bonded means al surfaces become one because the resin cures simultaneously leaving one big piece of boat (fiberglas mixes this way). only possible when fabricating a new boat.
If i'm wrong please say so
But this looks VERY nice!

As long as the layers go in within the time period specified by the material manufacturer, there will be a chemical bond, it doesn't have to be literally 'at the same time' but after summat like 24 hours, the bond process is compromised, the longer, the worse it is. When laminating, all the layers, from gel, to last laminate, should be in within that 24 period to ensure a true single structure, rather than multiple laminates 'stuck' together, which would be more like to de-laminate on those interfaces when the going gets tough.
Some parts of the manufacturing process mean it's not possible to adhere to the ideal timescale, such as bonding in strucures, joining hull & deck. In those areas, you can only try to get to these jobs as quick as possible, and design the structures and the methods of bonding them in in the best way possible to avoid the kind of tearing/peeling motion that delamination usually starts as.
To put it in perspective, my 28 hull was laminated from gelcoat, to completed, balsa core hull within 2 days.
gel & skin coat on day 1 PM, all laminate and balsa sandwich on day 2. So there was never more than about 18 hours between any of the laminating proccesses for the main hull structure. Same went for the deck.
