i remember hearing a story about them from a navy mate of mine. when the 42s or 45s (cant remeber) were first tested they took one out for speed trials and hit the battle systems overide button (basicaly disabeling most of the safty features in combat) and pushed the boat to the limit. being turbines they just threw as much fuel in as poss and got it to 42 knots (apparanty) but the bow hull plates buckled under the weight of water and it had to go into a dry dock. true or false i dont know but makes an interesting story.

I will try and find the photo of some guy water skiing behind a grey funnel line (royal navy boats) destroyer/frigate in the 80's. Was covered by Navy News . . .

Great video but they had ships that fast in WWII without gas turbines

The Abdiel class with Manxman and Welshman - awesome minelayers that could do over 40kts.
