Anyone remember this ?

Here's an old picture, I recon it must have been about 1974 when I was working for the summer on Uno Embassy as boat washer/ dogsbody whenever I could. All of the boats in the European Championship used to come over for Poole and Cowes and were housed in this 'shop at Fairey Marine, HAmble Point. This 'shop actually became Cougar's laminating shop in the mid 80's before they tore it down

Here's another from a couple of years later by which time Uno Embassy had become Uno Mint Jewellery in the hands of Derek Pobjoy. The black boat in the background is a Cammenga Cobra called "Breathless" belonging to Tim Powell which he later raced at Cowes in the Cruiser class. Can't remember the one in the foreground was it Billy Elswick ?

Now here's another from about 1974, a pair of real motors in Limit Up and a very young looking Pete Downie ...

The year was 1976 or 1977. The boat nearest on the left is the 36' Cigarette "I Like it Too" owned by Charles Gill and crewed by Jimmy Brooker. It was also used in Windermere Records week to set a speed record with a water skier. I think that was also the year that it won the CTC. How's that for a memory!!!! I was 9. It later became Realite Charger. The Limit Up boat would have been the 35' Cigarette. I think the 37' only ever raced in the Peter Stuyvesant Colours, but I could be wrong.

As this is an “old” thread, I remember standing on the lawn of the Royal Yacht Squadron with Pen promos cousin, the cannon fired “bang”.
“Where are all the bigger boats? “ Fi asked.
“Behind them I guess “ I ventured.
And I dare say Simon has a story to tell….. (for SWP. Ref 1983 and one of the trophies was full of champers of which you were offering anyone in Cowes High Street a drink of)

'Realite Charger' eventualy became a timber decked, sunseeker styled sports cruiser, sat down at Eastlands boatyard for years.
I think the deck conversion was a Midas job.

It retained the staggered MkIII's engine/drive layout.

Clive Baker (Phoney 28, 'Double Vission') bought the boat a few years back, by which time there were cracks appearing in the timber structure, he sold it on to a guy in Sweden, or somewhere similar.

That pic of the white 'Limit Up', is Jean Claude Simon design 'Cobra', as raced by the late Joel Harpern (in fact, that looks like it could be Halperns boat, 'Beep Beep'), I didn't realise Michael Doxford ran anything but Cigarettes (35 & 40), so it goes to show, you learn summat every day.
