Unless its recorded in Quicktime (or whatever it is) as my GoPro does, it won't recognise the files & I have lost count of the number of 'plug in's' I have installed that are supposed to make it work.

Total video converter, is what I use to convert the gopro footage to a format suitable for windows movie maker.
Can take a bit of time to convert if you have HD footage though

It's all in the FAQ on GoPro's website!

Hmmm yes, tried that thanks Cookee, doesn't work for me, perhaps I need a 'man' who knows about these things, trouble is I don't know any. Bloody frustrating. Give 6 speed fully electronic automatic gearbox to fault find & sort out any day, far easier.

I had trouble getting my Gopro footage into iMovie on my Mac, tried all sorts of converters with no luck.. Turns out all I had to do was to take the footage off the memory card, save it into a folder on my desktop, then it worked like a charm. Worth a shot unless you've already tried it! Full HD takes an age to render and upload though, but it's well worth it
