Is that a reference to the valve size, or something more subtle?

This was my first car when I was 17. Its a 309 XS Injection, it came from the factory with the same 115hp 1.6i motor, close ratio gearbox and alloy wheels as the 205GTI 1.6 also the front bumper and bucket seats from the 309 GTI. However officially according to the log book it was called a 309 XS, no mention of injection and so was classified in insurance group 8 (205 GTI 1.6 - group 13). Thats only two groups higher than a 1.3 astra and the same group as a 1.4 escort.
They only made them for 1 year, so the long and short of it was; if you were aware of them and could find one (I was and I did ), you could get GTI performance blow all your mates 1.3/1.4 astra's and escorts into the weeds and be paying the same as them for your insurance, back in '94 when your 17 thats a big deal . In fact because I went to a specialist (out of the back of max power ) insurance company I was actully paying less than all my mates
