1500xs@crusader 16 cooling problem

... my 1500xs gets hot due to loosing water-pressure if i trim from vertically up to pass 60mph
... waterpump is new, transom is original 20", ignition timing is well, engine runs like s***
... original xs-gearbox with the low-water-pickup under the propshaft 3holes each side

... its a historical setup and must work

... has someone an idea ?

If the lower unit bullet is being dragged through the water with the rear end higher than the front (heading down hill) a low pressure will be present under the rear of the gearcase (where your water pickups are). I can only suggest trying to find a prop with lots of natuaral bow lift to get your wetted area reduced without the need for loads of up-trim.. Or, lower the motor a bit on the transom, which will lower your thrust line, giving more leverage to carry the bows, again, hopefully without the need too much up-trim.

Can't be any more help I'm afraid.

2 points !! If not running well, the exhaust divider / Water jacket is possibly rotten !! I think it may be a 15" leg so motor could be a bit high !!

... yup, i think exactly this low pressure under the gearcase is the problem
... cant lower the engine withot cutting the transom
... a 850xs gearbox with 2,33 ratio is fitted and as i used the laser II 26",
which has bowlift enough, the engine wouldnt became hot, but revs into the 7ks
... actually a chopper 30" is fitted, engine revs up to ~6500+ and those probs are there

... maybe theres a possibility to build channels from the front end of the bullet on both sides to those three holes
... or i take the spare serial 15"gearbox i have and fit a nosecone with low-water-pickup
... or closing those water-pickups and drilling the gearcase to fit a transom-water-pickup
... but all those modifications will kill the historical effect and the original xs-box will loose its worth

... 15" leg is right, but everythings fine, leg was open 4 weeks ago for change from serial to solid mounts

The remote transom water pickup is the obvious choice, but, if the laser prop works ok, but revs too high, you must be able to find a compromise propellor that reduces the revs, but maintains the bow lift without too much out-trim?

That motor has the smaller gearcase diameter to a V6 doesn't it?

... yes, gearcase is 4" only and 26" is the biggest available pitch
... tested the laser26 again today and temp-needle shows 75+%, trim a little more up or down needle shows 100% quick
... maybe the time has come to roll this 70s pornstyle-boat in a cigarette and drop this 32 year old engine to a museum

... just changed to an original 15" gearbox with the water inlets above the propshaft and won 3psi from 4psi to 7psi
... water pressure will only loose at very high up-trim
... ive ordered those original mercury specially water-inlet (available for 2.0-2.5 only) which must be fitted together with the original water-inlet and carries more water
... the last chance for the stoneage-engine to run or the museum will become íts new home
