I know you can get more HP out of the EFI engine, but what is the reliability like with all of the electrical components on these engines???
Cant help but think a carb version would be better, and far easier in terms of servicing and reliability......

The 2.5 offshore carb motor was suposed to make 245hp and the EFI 260hp. The reality of it was, they both made 260HP. The EFI had a lot more low and mid range punch but at the top end there was nothing between them. The reason they stated 245hp for the carb motor was that if they stated its true power they would have had a hard time selling the more expensive EFI motor.
As for reliabilty, with an EFI engine you could have an injector pack up other than that they would both be just as unreliable as each other
Servicing, much the same except you would need to get your injectors cleaned on the EFI and your carbs checked/serviced on the carb motor.
Probably more EFI motors around so you would have a greater choice.
If you go for a carb motor it may have been converted from EFI. If it is they would have either found a carbed 7 petal manifold (fairly rare) and bolted it straight on (good) or used an XR2 front half and 5 petal manifold (not so good). So make sure you check.
