2 stroke oil

At the moment with the nice weather I am using around 4/5 litres of mercury DFI oil a week. I went to buy some earlier and there's none left, apparently I have cleaned out both of Gosports Chandlers ( in the town).

So I've bought quicksilver premium plus oil, which is about £37.99 instead of the DFI which is 42.99.

However shell Nautilus is only £27.99 and is suppose to be there best two stroke oil. I could save between £15/20 a week swapping to this oil.

Thoughts anyone?????

I've always been told only to ever use DFI oil in my opti by two merc dealers. I am a Rock oil agent and have also been told that I can use MP3 sport but I don't because the small saving on the oil may not add up to the cost of an engine rebuild!

Merc says prem plus for an xs and dfi for non-Racing optis. Loads on scream and fly about oils. Consensus seems to be that you can't go wrong with the above but could go wrong going down another route - hence why risk it.

Would be interested to know why any other good TCW-3 oil would put a DFI engine at risk. I really dont think it would...

Opinion is nothing without proof, but opinion sells lots of expensive oils...

Mercury don't even make oil, there trading on people's fears. They pay another oil company like shell to make there oil.

Shell is a major oil importer and petroleum product maker and we are happy to trust them with the petrol but not to make oil?

I think your Merc dealers are recommending Merc products because there's

A: more profit

B: there Merc Dealers

I used amsoil 100:1 in my Thundercat race engine ( blue printed Tohatsu 50) and we use to rag them to death. They went everywhere at full throttle.
When we opened one up, there was plenty of oil in all the right places!

Mercury says DFI or there premium plus.
DFI is better if your engine runs in the lower rpm range because it reduces carbon.
Know racing teams running 200xs sst that use other oils, not mercury and they keep running also...
Mercury dealer will mostly sell you the dfi oil for your warranty and its made for those engines...
Personally, i use only the best oils in all my engines.
And the premium plus or other similar oils will do fine in your optimax...

They seem to keep swapping between DFI and Premium Plus.

One things for sure I haven't heard of any engines blowing up.

I've moved over to Rock Oil MP3 *****something or another.

The only difference I can see or not lol is because this oil is clear it's harder to see the levels ( for those that don't know, DFI is dark brown/Black) in my oil tank that's under the rear seat!!!

Seriously though according to all the advertising that came with it, it exceeds all the requirments anyone asks of it.

we use rock oils, we put MP3 Ultra in our customers DFIs (Selva/Yamaha and Mercury) and MP3 sport in all the older non dfi 2 strokes.
we have never had a problem and if you read the details they far exceed Quicksilvers.
One of our customers has a 150 Pro XS and uses it for wakeboarding and his data log has 75% of his hours between 4000-6000rpm. He uses the MP3 ultra and hasn't had a single problem in the last 2 years.
here is a link to the brochure.
