2-stroke oil????

i used to be into 2-stroke bikes and one question i keep asking myself is can you use a fully syn 2-sroke oil for motorcycles in your outboard.i cant see why, perhaps some views on this or what oil you use would be good,
cheers,
jamie

I believe that some synthetic 2T oils i.e. motorcycle, are not exactly Marine friendly!

Thats why they make Marine Grade Oils.

I thought the main difference between a decent synthetic 2-stroke oil and its marine equivelant was the TCW-3 antibacterial agent.

Although the oil is feckin expensive, I couldnt think of anything worse than having a situation where non-marine oil had festered in the lines causing the oil injection to malfunction and pop goes me motor! Although I suppose, in theory if you dont hve OI and srain your tank every time, motorcycle oil could be used. Is it worth the risk?

hope this helps

I believe motocycles run at a different operating tempretures to outboards therefore motocycle outboard oil in an outboard does not lubricate it properly and will result in game over for your engine because the oil never reaches the tempreture it works best in. It is always best to use marine spec TCW3.

I use either the standard quiksilver TCW3 @ about £4.70 a litre or the Shell Nautilus tcw3 @ £3.70 / litre. However. my motor is just a standard 40HP, whereas most of you lot run high performance motors so you may use different stuff.

Then why would you want to use Fully synthetic 2T motorcycle oil at £9.00/litre?

I'm not sure he's had one stay together long enough to make an objective judgement.

Go for the Merc High Perf stuff, you won't go wrong.
