200xs 'phutting' noise??

Hi all,

Strange question here. 200xs making a funny 'phutting' noise, most noticable on idle. Kinda like if you removed a spark plug then ran it.
I think it's something to do with the compressor system, seems that way and I can't imagine what else it'd be. I know nothing about the compressor system though!!

What does it do? What fluid/gas should it have in it and how do I check that? Anything else it could be? Engine seems a bit down on power to me. Not a lot, just a little bit.

Cheers in advance,

James

Reeds or a base gasket?

Not familiar with the 200XS, is there bleed hoses on it? Are any split or fallen off?

Deffo not reeds or gaskets, that's all perfect. I'm sure it's the compressor system, probably something it's supposed to do, but I wanna know whether it is and why.

Apparently there's a bleed hose that lets out excess pressure to atmosphere, yet some American guy tells me this shouldn't be the case? It's got me baffled and I don't like not knowing how something works. I've got two other mates with a 200 opti (old) and a 300xs (new) and neither of them make any noise, so how come this one does?

Just wanna find out exactly what the system does etc... There must be people on here who know these motors inside-out?
