Antifoul removal question

Has anyone had any success with the removal of Antifoul without damaging the gelcoat?

Hi Steve I have some gear that takes antifoul off mate has it been appoxy primed as that will be a git to get off ,lots of time and only use fine grades to sand but can be done give us a bell bud

I herd elbow grease works well! But you need to use someone else's for best results.Hope that helps.lol

I can second that! Great stuff.

It got through about 10 years of antifoul with 2 applications and a pressure washer - only bit it struggled with was right on the water line where the antifoul was proper hard.

Why do you think it struggled with the water line antifoul?

What was the gelcoat like beneath it when removed?

I used the dilunet stuff on an old Ring, made really light work of the anti foul, but didn't touch the primer (guessing it was epoxy)

I had a chat with the guys from Sparkes marina on Hayling at last years Southampton show because I too need to strip the antifoul from my hull and really don't want to do it by hand.

They said they'd lift it off it's trailer with straps, blast it off at low pressure to avoid any surface damage then reposition the straps to do the last bits.

From what they told me it would be just a couple of hundred quid at a 'slack' time, which sounded really good considering the mess and effort of doing it manually on a 6.5M hull.

I do have the benefit that the person who put the antifoul on many years ago didn't prepare the hull at all, so it's polished underneath and some of it has just fallen off over the years on it's own.
