Any toughts on Smilin Jack slider Intake ?

Hi All,

any thoughts on Smilin Jack slider Intake ? Good or Bad

i got a nice modded 1996 2.5 ni com powerhead with a drag cut and the smilin jacks intake should go on it with a A5 Box (849849-A5) for the next summer fun.

i have searched here on that helpful board, couple intakes are sold here and only Driver 510 is playing with one.

thanks for all your help

Awesome airfront! Quite tricky if you want to feather the throttle...All or nothing! Sould turn your boat into a bit of an Animal.

There were a few instances of them jamming wide open, I would go for an SVS personally.

That's what i thought first "all or nothing" if i look at the ratio of the throttle lever it's 1:1 and the sliders open only around 30mm from zero to full open.
if i move the hot foot just a little... what happens often after a hard landing, you will open up 100 horses or more ... that will be hard work to tame that animal.

have to change the ratio of the lever to soften the pedal to slider ratio,my lever has already a second hole drilled, if this will not help i have to fabricate a new one.

what do you mean , the temp sensor in old style horn or the throttle position sensor ?

i will have 3 springs ,one in the incontrol foot, one at the cylinder head to lower lever and one has the slider already build in.
for safety merc kill switch and fuel pump shut off switch

will go with a BRUCATO PCU and steam wheel in the future, i dont trust used ecu's on a new rebuild powerhead.
or i have to send it to belgium if van akelyen can test it or to your country if somebody has the equipment to calibrate ,recurve and test it. maybe you at techteam can do this ?

Nico from Van Akeleyen Services would be the man for the job,
Have some very good experiences with him, think he is @ Abu Dhabi for F1 for the moment...
Saw also some new svs intakes, he probally sells them to...

The older slider were prone to hang open because the lack of the proper vacume bleed offs, the incoming air would cause a seal on the slider plate and the housing if not wide open the slider would "glue" in place about half way closed and would NOT shut, Brucato perfected a new and improved SVS vacume system over the older NON BRucato units....

IMO stay away from a PCU and opt of the newer ACU my customers love them and they are alot more user friendly than the PCU..The ( Brucato boxes ) are a bit fat on the bottom and must be leaned more on the bottom than one thinks..

Any of the slider aren't for anyone wanting to ease into the throttle they have a more agressive throttle to hot foot ratio and are very usefull for a quick snap of the throttle wide open and then closed but easing in to or out of is a no go very touchy..

Thank's for Info to all of you,
nice to have two perfect tec support boards in the www

i will go with lots of return springs
and a return lever over the hot foot .

I think the ACU will not come with a steam wheel option, thats what i like.
lean it out for performance or richen up for safety while your driving.

i will see what happens with the slider at the first out....

actually i am and old school guy from the seventy's and normally like carbs !! much more user $$$ friendly to tune , but it's a modern world

Smilin Jacks

I've only driven one boat with Smilin Jacks, it was a carbon 21' Cyclone with a pair of 260's. The boat had been recently imported from Oz and needed some time on freshly rebuilt power heads. It was rigged in Australia and they bracketed the shutters on top of the fuel tank behind an upholstered pad leaving the front half of the cowlings completely empty. I remember both engines started really easily, they were quiet and docile like a couple of 90's. Out on the river spinning a pair of 28" four bladed cleavers it accelerated from 500 revs to 8250 incredibly quickly and then back to tick over again and all seemingly in about 400 yds! The shutters were like an On/Off switch, they may work for ski racers on the flat Australian river races but they're not so easy for our waters.

the airtemp sensor on my 96 2.5 is in the lower part of fronthalf on starboard side . my a5 box has done the job with the slider intake and without a tps sensor before.

Thanks Michael,
I was thinking about fitting it to a 225 promax, but think I may just leave it alone. Its a stock motor and never misses a beat.
