Arneson question

Any idea if these drives are good, bad, ugly?

Was after a second hand pair of ASD8 but have found these instead:

Arneson model # 17-21-003

Best drives on the market, I have used 8s on blown petrol's big diesels and turbines and never had a failure yet.

That's my problem....I am after ASD8 but these aren't 8s they're "model # 17"...whatever that means...

Boat's going to be in the water year round so aluminium drives - like ASD6 - are no use...

I can't find much tech info about them...but they do sound like ASD6.

I have a pair of 1721's on the race boat - they are the predecessor to the ASD6, they are shorter and have a different spline (19 spline). Props are harder to get hold of and 6's or 8's would be better and I would probably have looked harder but these were a great price and hard to turn down! Now I know I would have probably waited for the right drives to come along.

On the other side they are reliable chain drive, it's tractor technology with little to go wrong! You will need to run one gearbox in reverse to get counter rotating drives. You can fit ASD6 tubes and shaft onto the chain boxes I believe so they are upgradable.

There's a set of ASD8s on USA ebay.
There drop boxes so you can do your counter rotation in the drop box by running the chain set in one and gears in the other.
This will also give you the option to get the drives closer together.
