Local Church ???
Have you thought about depleted uranium, More dense need less of it in terms of mass, mind you more difficult to get hold of.
Joking aside lead has a low melting point so have a tout around the scrap/ salvage yards, easy to mould can do it at home but make sure the other half is out of the kitchen .......

Haven't been to church for a while ... but could be tempted
Need something quickly ... so melting pots in the kitchen ... even with the better half sent to her mothers for the weekend probably won't work

Go down the local Builders/Plumbers merchants, get some of the lead they use on roofs & seals. It comes in flat rolls but you can beat it to within an inch of it's life to the shape you need.

mmmh last time I walked into a church the sky turned black & the cross went upside down.
buying from a yard is an expensive way of doing it but if you do the codes 3, 4, 5 are its thickness in mmm
ie code 3 lead 3mm thick
Lead, Aluminium & salt water dont mix to well, keep them well seperated. it will really eat away the ali, brackets & stuff like that

best places I find to get shot is divers, they always have the stuff, I use shot bags in my weight belt for diving. I know that the bags are small but if you can trace back to where the lead shot bags are made you might be able to buy bulk shot. Anyway just a passing thought

Thanks for this ... I need it in 20lbs / 10kg bags ... not sure the divers use it in that sort of weight ... probably drown
If you know someone who provides the shot tho, always happy to ask
