I had over 300hp on a Phantom 18 so I guess 175hp won't hurt your Marshan, Is that the old Black Max with 2 piece heads ? If it is that may be crankshaft hp and a lot less at the prop.

My 16.2 Marshan had a 150 black max on when i bought it, 2.4 block must be about the same weight 193 kg if i remember rightly.

Another quick quiestion

What year did they stop making the 175

is it essentially the same power as a 150 as they measured it at the crank and 150 at the prop , will this meen it has higher fuel consumption for the same power,

175's came in all sorts of flavours, 2.0, 2.4, 2.5.

2.0's finnished in 1985 when the rating was changed to propshaft output, then bacame the 150,

2.4's finnished in 1990

No, power is the same, an old 175 2.0 would have the same output as a later 2.0 150.

Could be, 2.4's finnished in 1990 but could be a leftover or waranty replacement!

Ive had a 175hp yam on a marshan 16.2 till i blew up the power head was fine but scared the sh*t out of mates lol 175 on a 18 you will be fine im fitting a 200 hp on a 16.2 for the summer we are fully restoring our boat.Good luck if you do put the 175 black max on the boat have some ballast up the front and take it easy they are really fast with a v6 fitted on these ,can be a lethal weapon in the wrong hands .
