BlackMax 150 ruff running

Me Merc v6 is playing up. Its an oldie 150 BlackMax, 2li 2 peice heads.

Started by stalling on idle and being a real pig to restart.

Changed plugs, starts on the button but after say 30 seconds i think it is dropping a cylinder and eventually stalling.

Seams to run fine flat out.

When you restart (needs full revs to restart) it wont rev well at first, is therefore a real pig to pull a skier, but if you give it beans all seams to clear and run well.

A Coil prehaps? How can i test this, i have checked all cylinders for a spark on idle, they all "look" the same!

this is from my post
coil breaking down i noticed a blue light inside the installation on the positive to the coil so as the motor was getting warm the wire was parting and breaking down but it was OK when cold hence why i said it was firing on all 6

what mix of oil/fuel are you using it could be oiling up worst case compression test and hope they good
hope this helps

Ive recently learnt that coil magnets break! Gareth from Marinautic show me that by first testing that you have a spark, if not then you can removing that coil and then remove the rubber housing it has, if theres a crack across the surrounding magnet then its finished.

replace it but dont over tighten the secure bolts.

Ive never had a problem with previous engines but and the 200 merc on my new boat had the same kind of problem as your stating.

If in doute and your local to Poole that get in touch with Marinautic! They did a very trustworthy job on mine!

Have you checked your fuel pump diaphram. I had an old 2.4 with the same sort of symptoms, changed the diaphram and problem cured.
