They're a Pulnix 0.3" single CCD pencil cam, inside an exquisit purpose made, water proof annodised ali housing, all 'O' ringed with a stainless steel waterproof plug.
They are the cameras that Mark Pascoe got for Charles Burnett's Class II boat 'Buzzi Buzzard'. They captured the footage of him going over back in '95 or '96.
The Pulnix camera it'self is discontinued now, info here:
http://www.rapitron.it/archivi/OldindustrcolE.htm
If needs be, ie, if a camera fails, I'll get new pencil cams and re-use the housings.

We have recorded some footage from a model and it came out great - I'll try and persuade Kitten to publish it so you can judge for yourselves.
Hard drive systems aren't an option for us, and the race boat has a reputation of destroying stuff, so I wouldn't trust it with a camera! That all means the solid state route is the only one left!
I suppose it's for our own amusement and to see if you can put something up on here that's worth watching!
ps. Foolish - it's Cookee!!!!!!

Sounds like it's the boat you need to change!
I was very surprised how well the Mini DV coped, albeit foam suspended in a Underwater Kinetics case. (which just sat on the cabin floor)
Obviously the impact loading wasn't that high, but as there was NO signs of tracking difficulty whatsoever, i'm certain the same setup, but with the case suspended either in bungies, or within more dunlopillow foam, it would be fine, even in an old boneshaker of a Bananashark.
I think the occational glitch would be acceptabe, in exchange for a quality, high resolution picture the rest of the time.

Y frame bungiee supports with a 'tag' bungee pulling towards the rear is what we used in a rally car a few years ago. Zero skip on the tape.

Well Kitten and I have both got these setups - he even had one in the latest model we've built - I'll let him anounce it - suffice to say you'll like it!

Should have some good shots of boats passing you then Floater. To see them dissapearing in the distance wouldn't be good.
