Bores?

Hey Chaps,

Just taken the heads off the 2.4 to give it a good once over and in all my years of building engines I have never seen bores quite like them!!

There are small patches off pitting in the bores which looks to me like porosity in the bore material. Does anyone do liners for the bores or re-plate them. We always used to send ours to 'millenium' in the states for nicasil plating. I don't really want to have it apart for too long though.

As I don't have a lot of experience with mercs, I thought I'd throw it over to you guys, anyone ever seen it before.

Does anyone have a spare block lying around that's in good fettle...?

Thanks, Chris.

Send a message via AIM to Burty
there is a place in weston super mare that plates then but it'll be cheaper to buy a second hand block

There is a thread on this here from before, Yes it is possible to do here, Ex Bike racer around brands way does it.
Most US blocks go back to "US Chrome" to be done. About a 11 day turnround from the UK if you Express Airfeight the block both ways. IMHO you need to give Jay Smith a call both burty & I will vouch for the advice you get for free. A lot of whats around is not really up to much and overpriced

If they are chrome bores most had the pitting from new and ran without problems, nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the info chaps.

Roofer, that's just the reply I wanted!! They'll be going back on then!

I suppose on the plus side, the holes are going to hold some oil!! Mercury's special lube system.

Thanks again.
