Cle

I am going to be removing my gear box soon to replace the impeller. I have seen a few pics in the states of people who have striped and polished their CLE Gear cases.
Anyone know the pro's and cons of doing this?

MrRob.

"People in the STATES" polish "everything" .....

for all the effort of keeping it "Polished" i doubt you would notice any difference apart from added "Bling" and a sticker stating that you polish your "R-SEND"

In salt water, you would need to quit your job and spend a week polishing after every trip out, unless you could clearcoat it or something.
A colour coordinated paint job on yer lower unit can look good though, with a nicely polished prop.

Our box is polished and to get it to a good standard is hard, but after then wash it after use. And polish it reagularly then it is easy, if you is willing to put the efforrt in

I've been thinking of putting an Offshore leg and CLE gearbox on my engine but have been told that the gearbox shape can make the boat run bow down. I know you can trim it up, but has anyone who runs one noticed any difference in running/handling ?

I havent noticed any difference. The only thing i can think of is that with a CLE bullit box you are able to run with the prop higher in the water and this will cause it to have less bow lift.

If you boat needs bags of positive trim, the extended nose can make things run a bit funny.

We tried a nose cone kit on the race Extreme (king of all positive trim required boats) and it fkkd it up. (and it didn't go any quicker)

In that case I'll go with the offshore leg first and wait until Gav's tried the CLE on his boat.

I think u can swap and change most parts of a merc V6 and I doubt U will have trouble fitting a CLE box to your merc 150.
do u have a powerlift on your Phantom?
