CLE Lower Unit polishing is it advisable

I have a CLE lower Unit and wanted to know if any body on here has taken it back to bare metal and polished it and then coated it in clear laquer.

Or if they have instead just painted it silver.

My question is will laquer be enough to protect it and stop the lower unit anodising? Theoretically i think this should be ok, but shared experiences or those who have done this, any pointers would be appreciated.

The boat is kept out of the water on a trailer most of the time.

I left my standard Yammie lower unit in mirror polish.

No salt water, mag anodes, and yearly clean-up prove to be sufficient for me.

Ok I'm going to have to seal mine then as it's being used in the Med.

Ok any clear coat laquers/products that do not yellow or peel recommended.

Yup, even better if I may say so . But it took me couple of months. Picture in the 4th post of that thread is my result.

The last post on that thread I said I was polishing up a box but in my case it's a sportsmaster so no paint to remove. My problem was that it was a second hand casing that had been in salt water so already had surface corrosion. I started with about 320 grit sand paper then progressed through the various wet and dry grades then finished with Autosol. My finish will never be quite as perfect as Toffy's but still pretty damn good. It's a lot of work with machine then fingers on the fiddly bits.
I've yet to actually build the box but once that's done I'm going to use Kitten's advise of heating and spraying with silicone. I've done a test with this method on a piece of aluminium bar and the result is pretty impressive.
