Question CLE or Speedmaster???

Can anyone help?

Can anyone explain what a cle and a speedmaster gearbox is, and what the differances are between them and a standard box as i am searching for something with low water pick-ups to fit on my mariner v6 and haven't got a bloody clue what one is!! Any pics of one would be very useful!!

Many thanks, Steve.

They are sports gearboxes with low water pickups and should fit your Mariner V6 as its the same as a Merc V6 leg. CLE's are fairly easy to come by.

No. The boat only comes out about a dozen times a year, its too much of a pain in the arse having to drive nearly 200 miles to Swanage or Poole where we use it-if you had have seen it you wouldn't forget it,its bright yellowy orange!!

Was goin to email pic, but the computer has gone for a sh1t and wont work now...ba$t*rd computers...

Steve, I think you need to look at what you're trying to achieve, the 150 Mariner might not accept either a CLE or Sportmaster, and unless you raise the engine a lot it won't gain you much speed if any, and then it won't be any good for skiing, so you'll need a lifter to make it go up and down - by which time you night as well have got a 200!

The transom has been extencively reinforced by previous owner, but not cut down at all. I have a hydraulic power lifter with about 6" up/down travel to go on, but aint got round to fitting it yet, along with a set of ST16 trim tabs..! I might consider changing the engine some time soon, but this mariner is a real rough diamond due to quite a few mods being done to it, it comfortably outdrags ring and phantom 18's with 200's on, and its cheap to run, even at 70mph!

Mr Rob, whats the Promax 225 like? I could be tempted in the future with an engine like that, I here they are a bit more reliable and dont need as much servicing compared to the rather horny 2.5 EFI offshore units?

I have only used it the once! It accelerates really well but I only had it last year and havent really had the chance to push it! I am going to have it Modified sometime next year at Ocean Racing in Gosport as I had a really good chat with the guy there Geoff. Looking at having it blue printed and ported and should give me and extra 30hp-40hp on a stardard intake.

It is the boat in the pic, but as far as im aware it hasn't been cut, could be wrong though. I've seen others that look like that on the back. Have you any pics of one that hasn't got the cut out on?

I just want to get the best out of what I have already, and I figure its the next logical thing to add once i eventually fit the hydraulic jack plate.
