cleaning old engines

Hi Boatmad

I have recently aquired a 92/94 ish Merc v6 on carbs and I am hunting down a miss fire. The thing is filthy, white grease, axel grease and vaseline daubed every where. Any tips on how to clean up the electrics.
Adam

Brake Cleaner in an aerosol can. Halfords do one. Just be careful round the insulation tape on the coil leads and blow it off with compressed air. Replace all the crap with a little bit of Dielectric Grease available from Mercury (Barrus I assume) for the cost of a 3 bed terrace up north.
