A 260 was bought off Scream and Fly with low hours was torn down as a precaution and the builder used RED RTV on the top and bottom "O" ring seal on the seal housings on the block. A perfect plug of RTV was found in bottom seal housing before the check valve. This engine have VERY limited amount of run hours ( thank goodness ) before this was discovered as the lack of oil supply to the top crank bearing WOULD have spelled disaster and certain failure...

Moral to the story NEVER use RTV on ANY part of an outboard engine , use only a sparce amout of the Red Gel Seal products
( aka Loctite 514,515, or 518 )

Just another "catch" that saved this engine and may save yours...
