No, but i expect i could find out in the next couple of days or so.

Id guess they are no more than 12 inches long and 6-7 inches in diameter.

440 Yanmars, Konrad drives, not even sure what gearboxes! probably at least 60-70k for the mechanicals alone. A lot of dosh to to spend on an old 357.

It'd be interesting to see how quick one would go with a pair of 315 Yanmar packages, perhaps 50mph.

Complete warranted engine/drive packages would then cost IRO 40k
Jon ive just had a look at Bens old boat tests and im not impressed. The 353 fastech hull is a lot quicker but the chances of coming across a 353 minus engines and drives might be a bit slim.

So, a Yanmar 300hp package with drive is about 20K?

Just need to find the right boat for them now.

Matt,

Ive just had a look on the internet and unless its a far eastern copy id say it was a JetCat P200 engine that would be 2,700GBP.

After some consideration it would appear that i will have to settle for a smaller & lighter boat than the Formula 357 in order to get near the performance figures i am looking for.

I have drawn up a shortlist:

Donzi ZX 28
Formula 303 SR1 (Stepped Hull)
Formula 312 Fastech
Revenger Monza
Sea Ray Pachanga 27

What do you think to any of the above fitted with a pair of 315hp Yanmar's?

It dosnt look good for the red diesel boys http://www.rya.org.uk/NewsAndEvents/...eselupdate.htm

Why not buy a boat that already goes fast as a petrol and then get an LPG conversion cheaper than the red stuff and no gear box / engine swaps?

Give the LPG doctor an email on drwfscott@btopenworld.com he runs his sunseeker tomahawk twin v8's on it, they was an article on him in MBY it says hes happy to help - 38p per L!

The Formula 303 SR1 has been tested to 70 mph fitted with 2 no. 310hp 7.4L Mercruiser's.

What difference would you think a swop to a pair of Yanmar 315hp Diesels would make to performance?

LPG is not an option i would consider, but thanks anyway.

Don't believe everything you read.

TD and I have looked at dozens of boat tests in Powerboat Mag, Hot boat etc, where the speed achieved, gear ratio, RPM, Prop pitch etc dictate that the speed claimed is physically impossible, ie, tests where the theoretical slip is in some cases -20%. Magic!!

I'd be gobsmaked if a 30+ foot Formula would run a genuine 70mph with 310hp a side. Especially if it's the older style Formula.

Is this a new stepped fella, or traditional 'V' bottom?

Originally, i obtained this information from Ben's Boat Test reports which listed the 303 SR1 (stepped hull) with twin 310hp v8's as achieving a Radar top speed of 70mph. (OK, this is a magazine report & Radar).

Then a search on Offshoreonly.com revealed further boats owners claiming a 71mph GPS top speed with twin 7.4's. Other owners claim 75mph with twin 502's fitted.

I searched Formula's Brochures to see if they produced a single step 303 SR1 but found nothing, except that the claimed weight grew from 7,250lbs in 1992 to 7,650lbs in 1996.

I have asked the question of whether a single stepped hull 303 was ever produced on Offshoreonly but am awaiting an answer.

The "stepped hull" inclusion in Ben's Boat Tests could be a typo error or error in the magazine report itself?

I am keen to find out the answer anyway.

OK, it would appear that the Formula 303 SR1 was never manufactured with a stepped hull.

This would make it the Deep Vee hull similar to Matts 292 SR1 but 250lbs heavier so is highly unlikely to produce a faster top speed with the same engines.

If Matts 292 does 62 then this old girl would struggle to see 60.

OK, on to the Revenger Monza.

Tests talk of 75mph with a pair of Magnums @ 365hp

Of the two boats that are currently for sale one states a top speed of 65mph.

Does anyone have a copy of a decent report or real life experience of these boats?
