Engine - Center or right side?

On my last boat I had engine mounted on the right side of the boat. As far as I understand it was made to turn harder/better to left side

How to instal engine on 8inch setback to my new boat?? Center or still on the right side??

Thanks for help

Mike

Burty's right.

Engine is always centre.
Balance the boat is the way to go.

My old P16 Ex "Le Gopher" had the engine set slightly to Starboard. I was told it was to counteract the torque. When I re-set the boat up for '91 season, put engine back to centre and balanced it out.

I guess in an ideal world you can balance a boat so well (and of course have the correct prop) that you can run an outboard in the centre.

I have seen it done once or twice, but rule of thumb is one inch offset.

My Post "I have seen it done once or twice".

Unfortuantely no one takes advice and does this!

"put all the weight to the right ie battery, trim pump etc".

As we know there are some badly set up boats out there!
